Does anyone bother stripping down a stella after purchase like you would do with a less costly reel..? I presume its not necessary due to the reel having a much better quality control and hence more care taken in appropriate lubrication.

I would check the factory lubrication at least.

Ill try and get some photos. Should hopefully read something like the thread by Meh? (thnx Nagz). But probably with a few left over washers or something! Ill be very surprised if they go back together feeling better than before. Ive heard people say main gears and pinion gears need to go back together in the exact tooth location they were in, but others have told me it doesnt actually matter at all....?

highly doubtful that you’ll ever get them to be smooth like before, unless you can remember / mark the pinion and drive gear when removing?

Honestly it'll quieten down after a bit of remeshing, this happens to all my reels.

Manno, as you disassemble the reels, take a 'memory' photo as you go, certainly helps with reassembly!

So it does actually matter if the teeth line up the same as before i pulled it apart?

That is only true for reels where the drive gear isn't round.

depends on who you ask? Bit like when a chain comes off a bike when it goes back on it may feel clunky - its never going back on in the same spot.

For me, I like to change the teeth location - shares the wear and disturbes the wear pattern. One thing I noticed very much on my little workhorse Saros 1000F, was wear pattern emerging. When you disrupt it 'noise' is what comes out of it - thats my 2c.
