Question Shortest possible butt on a flick stick (revisited

Hi,

I asked sometime back about feeling the need to cut some of my butt lengths down from roughly 12cm down to 2.5 cm.

I just feel that casting hundreds of times in a breamin' session the butt gets in the way (maybe its my large stomach getting in the way).

I have had the trusty hack saw resting on the offending butt about 4 times today but a little voice in my head keeps me from doing it.

Can anybody who has ventured forth and cut there rod down post some pic's ? or tell me if was a success or a disapointment.

And what was the reason you cut it down in the first place.

And one last question did you add any weight to compensate for the shorter stick?

Thanks Heaps

Worth it all the way. Did it to my Synergy. Just like a new rod.

Bear,

Did you do it because it was in the way?

heya,

I have cut the butt section down on two rods I own, which are G.Loomis "crankbait 781's" to 3 and 1/2 inches and i highly recommend doing this with any long butt sectioned rod!!!
1.If you cast with your right hand then "swap" to the left to wind(like me) with your right hand the rod doesn't get caught on your shirt everytime you swap.
2.At the length that its ,the rod really feels "clumsy"(sorry only word I could use)
3.When your lucky enough to strike a larger fish you can lock the butt(only when its around the 3-4 inch mark) under your wrist and start of your forearm.I find it makes the fight far more sensative for some reason?!!
overall i would always shorten to about 3-4 inches(personal pref.)
Anyway hope that helps a bit
later,

Kris,

Can I bug you for some more info on your rods.

You know the metal on the reel that comes out from the seat ( I don't know what its called) can you tell me what the distance is from that to the bottom of the but cap?

Thanks mate

hey again,
the exact amount of cork is 3.5 inches(from "the metal ring thing")
with no butt cap.
the rods have a full cork butt, the guy who did the work has basically "plugged" the last ring with a small cork plug.
looks better than a butt cap but then again its all up to personal pref.

good luck
Kris

Hey guys.
Im going to cut my butt, but i'm waiting till my one year warranty is up, as if i cut it, the warranty is void!
What is the best tool to cut it with?

yeh i'd def say a fine blade saw or something that spins VERY fast (maybe a "dremmel" tool) to avoid splintering the blank (so i'm told)
