stella rod or penn rod

gday guys
i dont no wether to go for the stella rod or the penn im6 rod on breammaster it will most likely be coupled with a diawa regal z 1500c. and does anyone no what the okuma epix is going for and which epix is best.

Mike,
The okuma epix EFS-20 (the best one for bream in my opinion) should cost you around $125-130. I've seen them for as much as $150 though so shop around. You can view this reel at Okuma Reels

Mike, when looking around at a second rod yesterday, actually looking for an IM6, I was told to have a close look at the Stella. Which Im doing Tuesday, No news from me til then.

Does anyone know what the IM part relates to on all the graphite rods? I've seen IM6 and IM7 and was wondering if it related to width or amount of graphite used etc.

There's such an enormous difference in price between what appears (to my inexperienced eye) to be very little difference in quality of material and workmanship.

Yes watch out when looking for the Okuma EFS 20. "the complete fisherman' was selling theirs for $145 which I think was ridicolous. I got mine from Got'ya tackle in balcatta for $115, they sell them higher I think at around $125 but I talked them into 115. Only $10 but hey my first haggling attempt and $10 meant 1 hour of pulling out 4 feet tall grass in my backyard! (yes now our garden looks very elite).

I would highly reccomend Got'ya tackle in Balcatta, if your in perth that is. Ask for the boss he's a good guy and will help you out

I got my Epix 20 12 mths ago for $125 and its a great reel, but lately I have noticed the price of all Okumas going up. Over here in the East I have seen the Epix 20 for as much as $169

but average is around $145 as Torvic said.
I also got an AV-15 7 mths ago for $60 and I just bought another one and after shopping around I had to haggle the guy down to $75 from $99

I think as well as others I have spoken to that once Okuma "got a foot in the door" and got their threadlines established they jacked up the prices.

Also watch out with the Epix reels, there is two types "EFS" and "EB". The "EB" is a baitfeeder and will be more expensive, I've got an EB30 and I will be selling that as an investment if the price of Okumas keep going up compared to what I paid for it when they first came out

Ozy I think the main reason of the price hikes are the rise in demand of their product, which I think anyway were helped alot by product articles in fishing mags a few months ago.

Also as you said now they are widely popular and as basic economics states the when demand rises so will the prices accordingly

im borrowing my mates ss stella as my 2nd rod for the vic comp.

is it a better hards or softs rod???

anyways mike i'l let you know what my thoughts of it are after the comp

Isn't it a shame reels don't follow along the lines of electronics..............the longer they are out and the more they sell the cheaper they get............

Hi kev

The main thin IM stands for is the modullous (amount) of graphite the more graphite the stiffer, lighter and usually beter class of rod. on the flip side of the coin is the lighter rod snaps easier and usually costs more.

More graphite means the rod loads alot easier and casts alot futher.
