Worse case Scenario, the Daiwa knot tool is pretty good and doesn't really require your thumb. I tie horrible knots personally and this little thing has helped me with micro guide issues.

+1 for three turn surgeons knot for all light applications. With heavier leader I use the Allbright special.

Happy user of the Surgeon knot aswell.

Have only ever done 5 turn for all diameters.

To the users who use 3 turn wouldn't it be best to use less turns for larger diameter line like your typical uni knot? How does it go on 3 pound leaders etc?

Will have to give the 3 turn a crack!

Sorry to hear about your thumb but maybe consider this misfortune a perfect opportunity to experiment with light fluorocarbon line fishing? Something like 4 lb Seaguar Tatsu or something similar.

It's an excuse to go out and buy a few more combos and give your mate
a six pack to tie the leaders for you
