Stiff Rods

Hey everyone,
Yeah I know that is a pretty dodgy subject title, I hope no one gets the wrong idea
My current bream rod is a Loomis SJ 700 GL2, it's a fantastic rod and over the last couple of years has caught me ooodles of bream, but I'm in the market for a second rod, something a lot stiffer and perhaps a little longer for a couple of specific applications.
I'm thinking Loomis of either GL4, IMX or GLX specification, although I'm open to any ideas. Has anyone got any experience with any of those, or any other ideas, what I'm really looking for is stiffness.
Thanks in advance

Duncan

Hi Duncan
The Lommis IMX in the same profile and wraps is stiffer than GL3, supposedly GLX is stiffer and lighter again, some one told me recently that GL4 is roughly equivaltant to IMX.

By stiffness do you mean a higher pressure to deflect the blank. IE: heavier line class or do you mean a more rapid reduction of the oscillations when the tip unloads at the end of the cast?

I have been using the Loomis Dropshot rod for 3 trips now and have found it to be excellent, I believe this is made of GL4.

G'day Steve,
As far as your question about stiffness goes, I guess the latter is more relevant (ie less wobble), also their is a specific technique I've just been exposed to, and the gl2 is a little soft to keep up with what I was trying to do. I'm pretty sure it cost me a few fish the other day.
The Loomis graphite specifications can get a little confusing, I own a Loomis flyrod and things get very murky in that area.
I'd love to have a look at the Dropshot rod, whereabouts do you fish generally, maybe we could meet up for a yarn?

Cheers
Duncan
