HB rod for the flats etc?

Ok guys im just looking at options for a HB rod for the flats. 2 questions.

1st) so a rod say 7ft,5inch generally get a bit better distance than say a 7ft, is that right?

2nd) what type of blank is better for casting distance (and im talking HB's around 2-4grams on average) assuming they were the same length blank is for example a PUR 70L or the UL going to get better distance?

cheers Jas!

Yes, you will want a rod of at least 7'2"-7'10" would be a perfect flats rod and probably about 1-7 grams or so for casting weightless plastics and small hardbodies. What type of blank/rod are you looking at? From memory you want a fast to extra fast tapered rod for the flats athough i might be wrong

thanks for the reply mate. Im just looking at blanks atm. I already have a custom on Hastings blanks (PUR 70L). So now im looking at maybe a 70UL. Another one im looking at is a samuri S002x (i think it is) 7ft5, 3kg blank.

Keen to check out other blanks that people recomend.

cheers Jas!

I think there would be a point where the extra weight (and tip weight balance) from the extra length makes it impractical to be using it to cast lures all day unless you get a really lightweight rod (<100g which I'm guessing won't be cheap).

long and generally a bit slower in action, slow soft rods to look after trebles on hooked fish and generally theres no need to have to try and skull fish on the flats so the progressive curve of a slower rod will be just as good fish fighting as something really fast
