Daiwa Presso in Salt water?

Hi guys,

I was considering using a daiwa presso 1003 for bream fishing, but i see that on some websites they say they are for fresh water only? I take very good care of my reels, have them serviced once a year and wipe them down with a damp cloth after every outing in the salt. Will this reel die if used in salt?

Cheers,

Brimia

hey dude,

my brother uses his exist native custom on the salt and washes it down after each use and it seems fine.
personally if taken care properly i think there should be no issues.

It depends on the body style, the old ones (airity body style) are magnesium and reccomended freshwater only, The new ones (Presso Iprimi, and Presso) are made from Zaion (New Luvias Material), However i think the bearings are standard stainless steel in them but then again stainless steel was used in saltwater reels for a long time before specialized coatings. anyway they are a great reel no matter what the model, but i think that as long as you take care of it either one will be fine.

Be fine as long as you take good care of it. Wash thoroughly after every trip to get all the salt off, dry and coat with lanox or similar. Regular internal clean and service, like every 6 months or so.

As shortlite said it'll be fine, if you actually read about most of the daiwas and shimano spinning reels, most say freshwater use... If you drown reels i'd get a heartland
