Importing rods from small overseas manufacturers

Hey guys,

I have been trying to contact various overseas companies and tackle stores to try and import rods, mainly from japan, but am getting lost in translation and my messages arnt really getting through.

I was just wondering how other people go about importing rods from overseas, particularly small named brands that dont get much international publicity?

Thanks

are you serious?

Man I dont know whats going on then. The email they sent me ( and havent since replied) pretty much said they cant answer my question, which was only asking if they have any other similar models to a specific rod. I dont get it.

I emailed them back asking if they sell another rod, and I got no reply, dont seem to good to deal with, maybe I just got unlucky

Also just so i dont start another thread,
is a rod rated to 4-12lb too heavy for bream fishing you reckon? alot of the japanese rods ive seen are rated fairly highly ( most being baitcasters) but theres a few spin rods I like that are rated up to 12lb and just over 7 foot.

Just after any opinions or information.

12lb is roughly 5.5kg's and is starting to get a little too high, but action is important and thats the hard part not seeing it in person before buying.

Yeah chops thats what I was thinking, its a bit of a gamble. But I was thinking if its a 7 foot 3 rod, with a minimum weight class of 4lb, it SHOULD be alright. I mean if it really wasnt able to handle 4lb lines because they are too light or whatever then it would be rated higher. Its not short and stocky either being over 7 foot.

Hmm, decisions decisions...

What rod did you get from plat?

Probably wont get the response your after if you ask them specifics about rods. I tried asking about whether a rod would be suitable for a certain PE line thickness and they didnt understand.

If you know the rod you want just tell them and they should be able to get it in. Asking them questions about the actual rods may be hard, as yeh.. they wont completely understand what your saying.

I work for a Japanese owned, Australian managed manufacturing company and we have technology and logistical links back to Japan. In my experience the people we deal with generally will not offer opinions on something they dont know for sure the response is usually "we have no experience" - you will pretty much never get a "yeah I reckon that will work" type response. I can't say if this applies to the fishing tackle industry though...

look at the smith dancing bream, rated 4-10lb. and its one of the best hb rods ive ever seen/used, i reckon if thats the sort of rod your after a flats/bigger hb rod then should be pretty sweet, just out of curiosity what rod is it that your after?

so far its not A rod im after, rather a few Im still looking into. Anything from Gan Craft, Daiko, Megabass etc. I want something with a split grip design though, and I love megabass rods but alot of them dont have that design ( that im after at least). The Gan Craft do but the majority are all bloody baitcasters rated over 10lb minimum.

So as I said im still looking around, and I probably wont be able to afford it until May ( gonna hopefully get one for my birthday ), but im still trying to organise everything and even try order it now if it takes a while to make/get in stock.

The dancing bream rods are awesome as, however im looking at something a bit difference in design, however there is pretty much no negatives about that rod from what ive seen!
