types of leaders

when using softplastics for bream and flathead what would be the size, breaking strain a brand mainly fishing around rocky outcrops and snaggy shore lines, also does the rod length affect what size leader you should use?

Ahh.. the knot question

It comes down to what works for the individual really as everyone had their favorites.

I use an Albright - no double in the Fireline (I just double it over) and have very rarley had problems.

Simple to tie once you get the hang of it - it's a bugger to describe but have a look here for pictures:

http://www.stripersurf.com/knot_leaders.html

I also wind the main line around going up the leader and coming back (the pics just show the winding around bit coming back)

The good thing with the Albright is that if you don't tie it right it will fail easily when you test it, rather than just hanging in there and coming undone on a fish.

Cheers,

Daniel, I normally go with a double uni, 7 twists on the fireline and 5 on the leader.

The rod length shouldn't affact the size of the leader your using at all, i don't know why people think that it might.

I use a very short double (Bimini Twist) about 2 inches long & I tie my leader to it by passing the end through the double then winding it up the double for 8 turns then back down for 8 turns & passing the end back out through the same way it came in then pull it down evenly. Its a very smooth knot & I have had no dramas.
