Wink Emeraldas colossal paint issues

Hi all,

I have an Emeraldas colossal, have owned the reel for around one and a half to two years and always cared for the reel meticulously. Absolutely top reel apart from one thing - the paint on the body of the reel is coming off.. So much so that if I am to run my fingernail along it the paint will come off leaving a bare patch on the reel and black paint under my fingernail ..

I'm not sure why this is happening and I am curious if anyone else who owns an Emeraldas colossal ( or any other daiwa with a similar paint for that matter ) has experienced this??

I am considering having the reel re-painted professionally ( original emeraldas paint scheme ).
Sure has been a while since I have been on here, glad to be back .

Could be a solvent you used to clean the reel some sort of oil thats had a reaction.Maybe you had it stored for a while in a container or box that had something in it.Some plastics react as far as i can remember the paint is unique on that reel.Just back track i think its a solvent or something used maybe the reel oil.Or a rag you used that might have had somthing.
Good luck mate.

Mine is still going strong and is the same age. I would suggest it has been exposed to something that has weakened the paint. Definitely time to get it pimped if that is the case.

Ive never had the issue, but first point of call would be email Daiwa. Even outside of warranty it could still be worth asking.

Would send it over to Geneo Kustoms a.k.a Xzibit for some pimping.
I think a gloss black with the emeralds bluey/green/purple glitter fleck through it would look sweet.
Be sure to post up pics or info when you've got it sorted

Thanks for the replies,

The only thing that has been near the reel (apart from a sprinkle of salt water) is INOX. Fairly disappointed as its probably my favourite little reel.

That reel looks cool, I have contacted Geneo Kustoms for a quote and I'm considering having it repainted for around the $200 mark.

Will post before and after shots if I choose to have it done

Have you been spraying it on directly or spraying onto a rag and then just wiping over it ???

Pretty shore it shouldn't matter. Inox isn't petrol or desil based like wd40 or similar products.

inox "lanox" in sky blue can is awsom..

inxo standard in dark blue / red can eats lots of things

it ate the knobs on my shimanos
it took the writing off my luvias spools
it turned my expensive electrical screwdriver handles to jelly
had a few other issues like lifting the paint from my R.C car

i just use inox lanox now days
the reelguard stuff is good too

My emeraldas paint job was starting to turn yellow a d was running pretty rough so it went to Geneo for a service and paint job. $150 well spent I think...
