Are you talking about Lake Wonboyn in southern NSW? If so, it's a lovely spot with excellent fishing.

There's a healthy population of bream in the lake/estuary, as well as good numbers of dusky flathead. Good places to fish for flathead are the shallow flats where the lake meets the river, although you can catch them almost anywhere within the system. Bream can be found around the oyster leases and along the Wonboyn estuary generally. You will also find the usual esturine species there, like silver trevally and luderick, etc.

There is also some excellent surf fishing beaches near the mouth of the Wonboyn river where you can usually pick up salmon and tailor. Right next to the entrance there's also a good rock ledge which drops away into deep water.

If you happen to be on the north side of the estuary at the Wonboyn retreat, you will have easy access to the famous Green Cape, a productive land based game spot.

Yeah, you will probably only need a couple of light estuary rods, something like a 1-3kg for bream and a 2-4kg for the flatties and your favourite SPs and maybe even some HBs.

The estuary is quite shallow from where the lake ends to the mouth. It might be best to wait until another boat is heading that way and follow it to see when the channel goes, if you want to go that way. Most people travel this section of the estuary at planing speeds to reduce their draft.
