Sea anchors?

Hi Guys,

Just wondering if anyone has one of the plastic sea anchors and what your thoughts are of them , i would like to know if they slow the boat down sufficiently enough to use plastics and hardbodies in windy conditions ,i have a 4m tinny

cheers

Yes and yes...they are pretty effective at slowing wind drift down. If you have a good natural drift line across flats you often don't have to touch the electric. One less thing to spook the fishes in clear water.

My tip is - make sure you get one big enough to slow your boat down. Having one that's too small - is like not having one at all

Drogue

I've got a Drogue (before having an Lecky) and it was amazing the amount of control you can get as well as slowing the boat down.

I don't use mine (now I have a Lecky) so if you interested send me a PM

That Drogue is very similar to what I started off using. Used to use them fishing for trout using a Loch style technique that uses a drogue.

Slows you down a heap and gives you quite a large range of manouvreability once you get the hang of it...

Ian.

yep, the square style drogue pictured above are awesome. slows down the drift alot. you can also manipulate the direction of the drift to a certain extent by shortening/lengthening the rope on one side - if you get me.....
they can be quite expencive (couple hundred bucks) but they can be made at home - just need somegood strong material, some chain along the bottom and a foam cylender along the top (to keep it upright), and a couple lengths of rope.

I had the above Drogue is customer made by Taskers, a very reputable sail maker in Perth based on my 3.8m boat

I am only looking for $100 ONO as you can see you can pay well over a couple of hundred

Far less than I paid as I am generally lazy and I don't go out when it's too windy...........and as such the Lecky does a stirling job.

I first saw a drogue used on a dam Trout & Red Fin fishing. Theskipper of the boat I was on managed to use the drogue to skirt a hedland on a windy day and ensure that the drift ran parallel to the dam wall and the Bank which "inspired" me to get one made.

I am going to NZ in a couple of weeks and I am keen to convert unused equip into fishing gear for the trip.....if only the wallet could keep up with the imagination !!!!
