Burley
New to Bream on lures folks and wondered if when you guys flick lures do you use any sort of burley? Being a hardened bait man it was just as important as bait IMO, any help would be greatly appreciated.

you can do so and it does work. but usually when your flicking lures you keep moving covering ground.

Thanks for that mate, I have a spot I have had alot of success with and basically all the "juicy" spots you cast at are basically within a 20 metre arc so I don't have to move that much, shorebased too.

Yeah I certainly agree, I generally premix then use a large slotted spoon like you would for stews, potatoes and the like to lob it out. Had none at all on any of my gear - very particular about my gear!

If you want to use Burley why not just go and buy some scents. There are heaps on the market and most of them can be applied directly to the lure. They come in spray and gel forms and sometimes work if the fish are a bit shy.

on the other hand i went out on another members boat recently in the ocean and altho it was bait and vary little lure the berly made all the difference they are a "fish attracting device" afterall most these bodys of water are frickin huge berly can make all the difference i had a ball on skippy that day
on the other hand when luring you are having 3 casts then moving afew meters then rinse a repeat till you move area completly so berly possibly isint all that viable plus in perth atleast it would attract all the godamn blowys! and grunters (the wrasse kind not the yellowtail grunters which are quiet fun for theyre size)

I have got some Ultrabite, the other brands i know of are Spike-it and the new one by Squidgees called S- Factor. I really dont use it that often so im not up on all the new brands and what they are called, but be assured theres heaps on the market. Pop into your local tackle store and ask them what the have. You will find they come in either an aerosol, Tube or small jar.

Do you know if S-factor is sold by its self or you have to buy a packet of sp's to get it still??
Hope they have decided to sell it by itself

I reckon you won't be able to buy S-Factor by itself for a while, It makes much more business sense to have to spend $10.99 for a tiny amount of it each time.

![]() I don't understand why they don't- they have the tube already made up for the slick rigs, it wouldn't be hard to sell it by itself, but hey- their lost is someone elses gain ie: ultrabite. I mainly use hb's and found s-factor is one scent that brings them on, not saying the others don't tho

i havent had much use of hard bodys, but for plastics off a boat i find if in some circumstances, burley is great
i fish a wall,an we work up and down with the current via the lecci the burley definetly brings results and concentrates fish but if your casting and moving your probably doin more harm then good so theres no mess, make up your burley at home, bread based with water and what ever you want in there, minced fish frames ,what ever, freeze them in to small 1or 2 kg bags ,wack them in a keeper net,and tie them of to your boat, when the bags finished leave it tied of and drive back to the ramp and the bag will be clean(ish) |
