Broke my pflueger Trion. Need advice on a Tcurve

Hey guys,

This is a great forum with loads of helpful information that helped me get into hb and sp bream fishing. So my thanks go out to all the helpful contributing people out there.

To my discust I accidently broke my trion yesterday and it's pretty much beyond repair (well to my liking anyway). Today after work I went down the tackle shop and they had some Tcurve's on special. I looked at heaps of other rods in there (raiders, starlo stix, some berkley rods and a few daiwa ones) but I really like the Tcurves.

Anyway there's one there (its a 6"6 Tcurve spin xl) and it had $309 on the tag and I hassled the guy for a while and the lowest he could go was $269.

So I'd like to know if you fella's reckon it's a good deal? Or is it too short for shore fishing (I do probably 50% boat fishing too though).

It's a really nice rod and I'd like to get it but I'm worried it may be a bit short compared to my old 7 foot Trion.

Any advice and comments are welcome.

Thanks heaps

Edit: Just saw those tcurves on DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh for $229.

mate although its not a 7 footer you can definitely get reasonable casts out of a 6'6'er, especially with some good braid and a good reel. Obviously if your casting vibes and that you will have no problems.

Also because you do 50% boat fishing, I reckon it should be fine.
I have a ballistix rod which is 6'6 and my casts are fine with it. With the 7 foot version I dont get too much more distance on it either.

Unfortuantely I cant help you with the prices, however sounds like you got a good deal after bargaining

Cheers for the info G Factor.

Just so you and everyone else knows I'm using 6lb crystal fireline with a 6lb fluro carbon leader which is spooled on a 1000 stradic.

It would be interesting to see what they're going for in other fishing shops.

my personal opinion would be for 260 bucks you can get yourself a daiwa infeet or an entry level GL2 loomis i got my loomis for 260 and i like both the rods i mentioned much better then the t-curves iv seen and i even owned a tcurve but i wasent a fan even though alot of other people especially over east are fans of them i like the stiffer action of other rods the t-curves felt a little sloppy for me

if you shop around with a budget of 250-300 you have so many options look around daiwa's, trion tournaments are nice, some of the berklys are good cheap rods, lox are really light and only 260ish, of course alot of the g-loomis gl2's are 260ish plus not only are they fantastic rods they have a great unconditional return policy should you break it

Thanks for your input A Girl

I'm definitely going to have a look at the rods you mentioned.

So you're saying no matter how your loomis breaks they will give you a replacement?

With the loomis warrenty, you pay $150 and you will get a brand new rod.

If you like the T-curves, have a look at this 7ft model for sale on this site,

Cheers

thats correct loomis have an unconditional replacement warrenty for the gl2's its $100 and you post it off and you get a brand spanking new one sent to you they perform really well as well!

on that note the lox's have a 50 dollar unconditional return policy as well

i love my infeet (it performs really well) the only thing that is in the cons for that rod is daiwa's return policy or rather the lack of......

at the end of the day for that price he could get a loomis or a infeet the infeets are fkn wicked but no replacement warrently but they are hands down good rods

loomis had alot in theyre range and in that range there are a heap of rods that perform well and can be complete workhorses

nabs12 - Cheers for the link, I'm considering that rod even though I would prefer brand new.

Boris - Thanks but I went to DohDohDoh as well and they only had the tcurve flights (I think they were flights and they were above the amount I want to spend).

Kenshin - The infeet's sound really good so I'll have a look out for them in Rangers or DohDohDoh. With the loomis', from what I can gather they are the elite rods and superior to most others. What makes them stand out from the rest?

None of the tackleshops here have loomis' apart from Ranger and they only had one which was some type of bass rod and was over 8'. I don't mind buying online but I really would rather feel the rod in real life for myself first just to make sure I like it.

I appreciate your advice A Girl

We've got Tackleworld, Rangers and DohDohDoh here so I should be able to find something nice.

I'll be checking out the daiwas and other rods in store and if I like the feel of them then I might have a look online and try get a better price. I think thats the best way to get exactly what I want for a good price.

Cheers everyone!

Personally I would choose a Tcurve over a Loomis GL2. I have the tcurve 7ft 2 piece and its a good light progressive rod. I also have a loomis I prefer but its an IMX and retail on it is near 600. I think with Daiwa/shimano/berkley/etc you get more bang for your buck until you reach the loomis IMX/GLX level (which are just awesome), although the loomis breakage warranty is helpful.
The Daiwa sol and saltwater rods seem pretty good and would be around the $300 mark. Berkley protactic are pretty sweet too. Okuma have some pretty good rods in that range now, can't remember what they are called though.

As an aside 6lb fireline is pretty heavy for bream (would break at 15lb I guess). You'll probably get more casting distance dropping some breaking strain in your braid then from a new rod.
