SX-40s & Strikepros - Who copied who?

I managed to get some SX40s and put it alongside the Strikepro pygmies... From the size to the eaxt shape they are defintely identical twins. The ONLY difference (apart from hooks) is that the head of the strikepro is slightly flatter and the SX40 is rounder and continuous... Even the bib is the same shape and size. So, who copied who?

chung i really dont know how true this is but heres what i heard - the sx 40 was commisioned by ecogear and made by the people who make th strikepros,as th popularity os the sx grew the ppl who were commisoned to make it,the ppl who now make the strike pro, thought they would corner the market if they made almost the same lure as the plans ecogear gave them,(just slightly altered so not to infringe on copyright)and sold them for half the price, hope this makes sense i know its a bit confussing and im not even sure if its true but thats wat i heard.

There are quite a number of different lures that have a similar look, ecogear, strike pro, owner etc. I'm less worried about which came first, I'm more worried about which ones work better. Have you done any side by side trials with the pigmy and the sc40 yet?

I wouldn't say I've done trials but I've used both. Now, the SX-40s wiggle even when it is moved real slow or when dead-sticking the slow current causes it to wiggle which is impressive. Not so the Strikepro but I've caught all my fish so far on Strike pros and none on SX-40s.

I dont think any copied any thing, they are two very different lures, the strike pro has raised eyes on the head, a thicker body, a thicker and shorter tail section. The eco also has rounder shoulders on the bib and does not posses the lump under the bib. The only similarity is the length other then that they appear very disimilar and both have different actions.

Really? I must have a closer look at it again. It sure looked a dead ringer to me when I compared the two. The raised eye is a difference but that was the only one I picked up. Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the Strikepro small fry or the pygmy II, the original pygmy is exactly the same as the sx 40.

I have seen a few other copies of the more popular lures like Killalure copying the Nilsmaster Spearhead...

They probably haven’t copied, or there could be some place of a law suite if that was the case. There are quite a few differences if you have a close look.

Panger, we have done some trials on quite a few occasions and had some mixed results. It's a little hard to get a true representation of what lure is better because they don't really have any colours that are exactly the same, except the metallic gold and red tiger. There seems to be days when they go one or the other more, and the swim pattern is quite different so l would say it's got something to do with that. Water clarity would be an important factor, as the eco's have the transparent gold lures which seem to do better on clear days as they a little less intrusive, and there is a better range of bright lures in the strike pro range (imo) which l like to use them in dirty water.

The simple fact that the hooks are different and they don't have the same buoyancy factor means they are different in quite a few ways.

True these two lures are of similair design, but i dont believe one has copied the other. When your dealing with something of that size (40mm), there are only a few options you have on the design . It would be almost impossible to have such drastic changes in design and still have the lure looking as its supposed to a 40mm minnow. One may have been inspired by another , but this should not be frowned upon . All this means to us is that the more companies that believe they can corner the market with a small minnow type lure , be it similair in design to their competitors , the cheaper the lure will get for us .
