Smak Skywalker ????????????

Hi Guys

I was wondering is the smak skywalker any good a lure and if so what would be the most successful color people have used. Should I be buying these poppers or is there a better surface lure out there.

Also does anyone know of a good lure that only dives just uner the surface like .5 of a metre as I have a spot where there is weed and the water is only about 1.5 metres and want a lure that goes just under but over the top of the weed cover.

Thanks guys

The Skywalker is purely a surface lure and sits right on top. small vigarous tqitches are the best bet. The gold and natural colours have worked best for me.

As for shallow lures, the R2S bugs work a treat. I've had some great sessions on these shallow divers.

Thumbs up smak skywalkers!!

the smak skywalker in orange/gold is one of my
favourite rack lures...i have had some insane sessions
on these little suckers..seem to work best when there are
plenty of prawns about & you can visually see the bream
in hot pursuit..Fantastic sight fishing!!!!

Have any of you guys used the rapala skitter pops in the sp5 size do they work well. Is there any shallow diving lures that are baitfish profile rather than insect. Do the rack walkers dive shallow are they worth a look and what color. What are your thoughts on surface lures in black as many people have noted a preference to black any thoughts or reasons????

I think with surface lures it's a case of matching the hatch.
For example if there are a lot of cicadas around the darker colours
blacks & browns etc especially in a cicada profile..buggi pops,
cicada pops absolutey go off!! but if prawns & shrimp are
abundant sky walkers & other small profile lures are definately the
go in a lighter natural colour..

for a shallow diving minnow lure - you can't go past the floating original rapalas, their smallest size is probably best in shallow water as the bream will be skittish to say the least and some huge lure going past is going to spook the heck out of them

black is always a good colour as most insects are black..

I like the look of the Smak Skywalkers havent had a chance to get one yet. I have used the Sugoi Mini Splash and they seem to attract a bit of intrest. The Rapala F3 minnows would be alright as a just under the surface lure and if you like you can add some lead wire to make it slow riser or suspender.

The floating 3 and 5 cm rapalas would be my pick of small subsurface minnow profile lures. You cant go wrong with rainbow and brown trout patterns although they also have a predominately silver lure with scale patterns called Bleeding mullett.

Chunqx,
you tend to find that Bream have to be in a pretty agressive mood to hit a surface lure in the first place so noise isn't really that much of an issue.

The colours that I would go for would probably be the minnow, rainbow trout, Brown Trout and the mettalic silver scale. I cant remember all the colours of hand but these I feel would be a good starting point. It might also pat to have a look at other threads on colour and success.
