Predatek MinMin - how to use?

I picked up one of these a few weeks ago and am finding them the hardest to use out of all the hb's I have.

What happens is that on the retrieve, the lure stays on the surface and kind of loops on top of the water. This happens more often than 9 times out of 10 casts. I know this can be due to line twist as I also had this problem with my oargee lil ripper - would probably happen about 1 in 2-3 casts for the oargee, but I managed to reduce the problem to rarely happening when I tried using a small snap lock with it.

The snap lock also kinda helped with the MinMin as well - manage to get the lure actually under the water on the retrieve probably 1 in 5, but I notice that it hardly has any action at all! Is this normal for this lure?

Have also tried it without the snap lock, ie. tying straight to the lure and also making tying a loop, but these methods don't even seem to have the very limited "sucess" of the snap lock.

I have a lot of other hb's - scorp 35's, laser pro's, snap shads, R2S static shad, lip rippas, taylor made TN, and have never had much difficulty with getting a good retrieve with them.

Cool

Dockfish, Minmins are great little lures and have heaps of action. We use a lot of the pink ones up here in Qld and the Bream & Flatties love em. The lure itself shouldn't have any problems getting down under the water, the ones we use have the large bib, rated to about 2.3 mtrs. They get down to at least a mtr and a half on a cast and well over 2mtrs when trolled. Yes you need to use a split ring with them so if your are and you still have the problem maybe you should take it back to where you bought it, maybe it's a problem with that one in particular. The only problem I had was breaking a bib on one, but that was all my fault, it didn't like my cast into a cement pylon under a bridge.

I use these all the time and have never had a problem. Also I don't use a split ring either. I tie straight on to the existing ring. Sounds like you have something wrong with the bib? Post up a pic of the offending min if you can.

Hi DockFish,

I've had the same problem in the past, the lure sort of just swims along doing big loops through the water, breaking the surface every metre or so that it is retrieved.

If it's the same problem, it's just a matter of tuning the lure. Just gently bend the metal loop at the front of the lure in the opposite direction that the lure is looping in. Only a small adjustment is usually needed with the old needlenose pliers.

Retrieve the adjusted lure through the water, and 9 times out of 10 it'll be running sweet. If not just make another adjustment until its running true .... then your lure is tuned

I hope this is of some help

Cheers

Karl

Is that a min min or a micro min? I have a friend using a micro min which caught as many fish as the strikepros.. it had to be modified though, the micro min he had was a slow sinker so I changed the trebles on it to make it a slow floater. The suggestion of a split ring on the eye is exactly what I thought of as a good solution because it will cause the nose of the lure to dip a bit which means the bib is underwater while its afloat and pulling it will get it diving and wiggling...

The lure is definately a MinMin.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Will try and see if it works.

I had taken the middle treble off (as with all my lures) and replaced the back one with a gamakatsu size #10. Do you guys remove the front treble?
I noticed that this lure floats flush horizontal in the water (tested in a bucket of water when I rinse the lures after a trip). All of the other lures float with their bottoms in the air and the bib downwards. Maybe this is the problem. Too much buoyancy? I might also try replacing the front treble to see if it can make the front end a bit heavier so it can go under the water.

I actually tried it out again today with a bigger and heavier snap lock and now it will go under the water nearly every time. But I am getting little action on the lure at all. It basically swims in a straight line. I can get a little more action on the lure by really cranking up the retrieve speed, but then it moves too fast for catching bream.

Maybe I just got a dud? Will breammaster accept it back?
