i'm afraid i've only heard bad things about them. Although this was about there larger reels, which were used for land based game fishing. I don't know anything about there smaller reels!

The Si series is an excellent way to get a worm gear driven reel at a reasonable price. Great for Fizzaline!

I've had one of the small composite body reels for a few years and had no major problems, although there are some slight design flaws:
1. Ball bearing around the shaft at the exit of the body is open to air, make sure you pack it up with grease to prevent it corroding and/or wash it after every trip.
2. The composite body is not that strong - don't drop it onto hard surfaces (not that you would )
3. The bail arm pivot holding the rolling guide is plastic. I've got a slice cut into it from my fireline .

The last point is probably the most grevious problem if i was going to buy another reel i'ld be looking at something that was all alloy at the bail arm pivot. Never the less, the reel has had some memorable captures along the way such as 2kg trout, 3kg tailor and salmon, small spanish macks, tuna , trevally, jack and fingermark - the drag doesn't mind a bit of red-lining.

The Banax Si1300 retails for around $149-00 and "looks" like a reel from the 70 or 80's, I'd be more inclined to look at a Shimano or Okuma and your mate would have a better reel in my opinion plus a spool of Fireline for the same price.
Though as with all tackle its a personal decision of the one forking out the $$$

Oh and Ozy "DogFish" ???? Thanks a lot mate, I've tried the last 3 days to catch a bream worthy of replacing my Avatar, alas no good

7 red bream, 3 yellow fin bream, 2 black bream and 4 flatties nothing worthy of a pic though.
The pressures on
