Boat and floatation

Hi Guys...

Quick Q. What is the law, if any, in regards to boats and built in floation. Say if I wanted to convert my bench seats into live wells, could I exchange the foam floatation inside the bench seats to under the gunnel ledges? And if I can just the same amount of foam?

...Cheers

Shane

one thing to keep in mind is insurance,
one of the first things they will ask you is if you have made any alterations.
so you may have to get the boat inspected.
if you are going to put floatation under the gunwals this is a great idea,as for the floatation in boats already,i don't think this would keep two people & motor etc afloat.

Last person to have the boat had substantial platform welded around the edges. So the foam under that would be more than the in the seats. Just trying to keep the floor space but still slap a built in live well. I will just have to wait for my insurance papers to come through before I start asking them what modifications I can make
