Wink Anyone lost a lure?

Found this among the reeds when shorebashing on Sunday. It was pure luck that I found it since

1) i have a few casts in the one spot and then move along 10-20m, so the chances of me stopping right next to it are fairly slim
2) if I had been at the same spot 30 minutes later I doubt that I would have even seen it as it would have been too dark
3) i don't even know why I was looking into the reeds!

So it was definitely being in the right place at the right time.

Pity I already have the exact same lure!

Shorebashing again this arvo in the same area. No sooner than having made a note to myself that I should keep an eye out for stray lures...

... found this one hiding amongst the reeds.

And would you believe I already have a crawfish laser pro 45?!

i'll have them...ship over to melbourne. Now being serious. If you took the front split ring off the bib (like scorp 35's), and tie it to that metal thing in the centre of the bib, would it alter the preformance of the lure? I dont want to by rings (yet) and and i dont want to lose lures

My fav lures I have 4 or 5 of them all - so Id be putting them next to the other ones you already have, you never know it could be you loosing one next time, but at least you`ll have a spare all ready to go courtesy of someone else. Always good picking up a lure off the bank.

cheers

I dont understand? all lures come with the rings if they havnt got a seperate tow point....... if you tied directly to the metal bit, there`d be more chance of cutting through the leader I reckon.

cheers

I think what lure-muncher is saying is that the scorp 35's don't have a split ring. I have one and it certainly doesn't have a split ring.

However, unlike the other halco's which have a metal bit that goes through the bib for the split ring to go through. The scorp 35's have a plastic bit going through the bib instead (and hence less chance of cutting your leader. Hope that all makes sense.

don't be so sure...

that plastic bib is still quite sharp as it is square cut,
have had two break off at the knot (knot didnt unravel..)
i got my partners nail file and with the finest side , rounded off the edges as best i could, and it seems to be ok, holding my thumbs, if that doesnt work i'll be adding split rings....

Dockfish

Where were you the crawdad looks familiar (and the R2S also) Burswood by chance?

No harm in having two of the same lure (spec if you loose them as often as me)

Stu_000,

Yes they were actually. Are they yours?

I've been lucky in that I have yet to lose a HB yet in 3 months of breaming *touch wood*. Gone for a few swims though.

Came close when I managed to cast a black/gold laser pro 45 into a tree about 3m up around Ascot. Tried yanking the lure out of the tree, but somehow the line broke at the improved albright knot (fireline to leader) and I couldn't see where the lure had landed! Couldn't see it floating in the water, couldn't find it on the bank and couldn't see it in the tree. It was getting dark quickly.

Decided to go back to the same spot a week later and found it after a short search, dangling with leader intact from a different branch!

hey guys I think you will find that the 35 scorps with no split ring and the plastic tow point are the suspending models and are not meant to be used with a split ring. The standard scorp 35 has a different bib shape and uses a metal tow point and a splitty.

There's a fair chance they are mine if you found them around near the golf course. The R2S was fairly new when I got snagged at the first summer night session and the leccy on the boat I was on sliced through the line when we were retrieving it. It caught me a bream before I lost it. BTW was there any leader attached?

The crawdad I wasn't too worried about. It had plenty of work and caught a few in it's time as is obvious. My loss your gain - nice work. Good to see lost HB's are recycled now and again.

The sunday before (27 march I think) I was down at east perth and I lost a R2S 60 in gold (brand new first cast!! ).

I had never had one of them before and I had gotten this one in a prize pack so I wasn't too worried about losing it.

I couldn't believe it! I just started the retrieve when it got snagged (should've taken the bottom treble off but couldn't be arsed). Trying to get it free the leader popped.

It's probably the reason I don't use the more expensive lures in the tackle box when shore bashing.. You can't go after them unless you want a swim.

Exactly where I found 'em.

R2S had some clear mono leader material maybe 4lb (a lot thinner than the 8lb i use anyway) which made an end loop.

The crawfish had the same type of mono leader which broke off close to the ?uni knot tied to a small snap lock thing.

The crawdad is not mine then. I don't use snap locks or anything like it - only knots. The R2S - I use 8lb vanish flurocarbon on them usually. Prob the same diameter as 4lb mono and I always have a loop on my HB's (and jigheads)

Cheers
