Help Get Pallinup Rec Fishing Only!

Recfishwest has made a submission to Fisheries to make the Pal rec fishing only. The pros have been hitting it hard over the last few years and if we don't stop it we could lose what is in my opinion one of, if not THE best systems going around.

Those who have fished it will know what I'm talkiing about. On it's day it is as good as anything I've seen or heard about and that includes the best breamin Tassie has produced so far (video doesn't lie my friends), I doubt many ppl would believe me if I told you some of the days we have in there, trust me this is one place we simply MUST protect.

Below is a copy of the letter that Recfishwest sent in. It would be very much appreciated if you anyone out there could send in a letter supporting the Recfishwest request to the Department of Fisheries that the Pallinup River is returned to a recreational fishing only._

You can send your own request for similar, your support is valued and DOES make a difference._

Recfishwest has done this off their own back to support us breamers so if you are a breamer in WA next time I see you I will be asking you if you sent in an email or a letter.

And if you think I'm joking you won't be laughing when I'm asking you why spending 10 mins (to cut & paste below, put your own name on there etc) to protect the fish we love was too hard.

I'll be asking for a show of hands at the Mandurah round and if your hands not up trust me I'll be asking you why you didn't send in a letter. Too hardcore? Probably, but sitting around on our fat arses won't fix the problem, taking action is at least a start.

It's time the powers that be started taking notice of breamers. Without bream we are f$%ked so get to it!

10mins, that's all I ask...............

Support for a Recreational only Fishery for Pallinup River

Dear Peter

Recfishwest believes there is a good case for returning the Pallinup River to a recreational only fishery. The Pallinup River is popular recreational fishing destination where large black bream are targeted increasingly by sportfishing enthusiasts.

Returning the Pallinup to a recreational only fishery would see a tangible return to the recreational fishing sector for this important recreationally targeted species.

Recfishwest is concerned that previous Fisheries Adjustment Schemes (FAS) have resulted in the buy out of effort without any tangible benefits to recreational fishers. South Coast Estuaries are a Voluntary FAS priority for Recfishwest. Recreational fishing in the South Coast estuaries is popular, safe, and a highly valued recreational activity.

Recent reporting of illegal netting in the Pallinup River has been exacerbated by the inability of the average person to distinguish between illegal and legal and commercial and recreational fishing equipment. A ban on all recreational and commercial netting in the Pallinup River would also go a long way to stopping illegal netting in this river.

I urge you to give full and careful consideration to Recfishwest’s request in this matter which we believe would have strong community support. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact our office on 9387 7864.

Yours sincerely

Frank Prokop
Executive Director

Ira I like the tone of your voice mate.

Even thou I don't fish for bream much anymore mine has been sent as well.

The way i see it if the departments get enough mail/email they tend to look at it more seriously And you only have to look at the extended Pinkie closure for verification of this.

Good to see a response and i hope the outcome is a positive one and while your at it Recfishwest needs your support more then ever not just on these issues but others as well and are always looking for new members.

Fines and Confiscations for Illegal Fish Catches

Further development on http://www.westernangler.com.au/foru...l/tm.htm#53423 is at http://www.abc.net.au/news/items/200504/1335878.htm?wa

Four men have been fined a total of more than $9,000 for illegal net fishing in Western Australia's Great Southern.

Che Alic Mocksen and Madison Ranet from Katanning were both fined more than $3,000 each for using five unattended fishing nets on the Palinup River earlier this month. Their boat and trailer were also forfeited.

Retirees Barry George Manyne and Victor Lewis Johnston from Perth were also fined several thousand dollars for illegal netting in the Wellstead Estuary at Bremer Bay, in which they exceeded the daily bag limit by more than 80 fish.

Van Hung Nguyen and Din Vuong Nguyen from Perth were charged with each taking 10 litres of ark shells from Oyster Harbour at Albany on Boxing Day last year. They were both fined $250.
