Tunning

I bought some strike pro hb today to give it a try. Forgot the name, but its the one that looks like the SX40. It swims like crap as soon as i retrieve faster then really slow. How can you tune these lure?

Before you use these suckers make sure you change the trebles or your going to loose fish. There fairy floss

Once you wack some new trebles on take out the split ring from the front tow point and it would fix them up nicely.

cheers, Nathan

I agree with you about the swimming action. Guess I'll also have to take off my split ring.

What colour's do you use Nath? I caught one small fish on the gold/trout colour.

Iv'e only used it 3 time's and the treble's are already rusting!

I thought they and others similiar were only meant to be worked very slowly.

A lure should be able to be worked anyway you want it to without it screwing up

I have tuning problems with the minnow type strike pro's. I cant go more than dead slow with them or they just break the surface.

I have to work my HB's with a fast BUUUUUUUUR then stop but the minnows wont do it. The Pgmy's will though...

Try kicking them to, that always helps

cheers, Nathan

Hi all,

I bought one of these the other day, lovely looking lure.
I used it on the Swan and got a heap of hits and taps.
I lost a monster just near the boat, the hooks had straightened a bit on the trebble. I will be changing those pretty soon.
Other than that it swam beautifully for me.

Most HB's have an ideal speed to be retrieved. This is due to the shape and size of the bib.
The retrieve speed is also dependant on the action of the lure. Scorps and R2S will stay under longer because they have a wider action. Orgee's and the Strike Pros are quite tight and will roll out alot easier.
Not much you can do other than work out the ideal speed for each lure.
Change the split rings and trebles etc but dont dick around with the lure to much because you will change its action and perhaps stop it from catching fish

Strike Pros are crap straight out of the box !. To tune them you have to actually bend the tow resulting in loss of strength. They are supposed to be bringing out the new and improved ones . I have had conversation with the dealers themselves here in Vic and got told I must'nt now what I am doing . Because a few of their high profile anglers said they were good without ever tying one on or throwing them away. Ask NSW champion anglers for their opinion on them the dealer in Melbourne said they uses them religously and swears by them. Can one of the sponsered Juro guys answer this please I wouldn't like my reputation tainted by a lying Rep. Sorry for the DohDohDohDohDoh it just sh*#s me.

I took of the split ring and it still swims like sh!t whenever i retrieve faster then 0.0001kmhr The actuall lure looks really good though. I was going to bend the tow point, but it looks fairly solid, an looks like id have to apply a fair bit of pressure to bend and in doing so may break something. I supose ill give it a go, its only a $9 lure after all.

As Bubba has said, a lot of it has to do with the lure size as much as anything else. I have similar problems with the SX40 and with the Juros. I tend to use these more for twitching any way so it's not a big deal, but other things like knot rotation etc will all effect this size lure and the way it swims.

Just bought a SX-40. Swam superbly out of the box. You definitely get what you pay for.
