Jigs for single tail grubs

What style jigs does everyone use on single tail grubs ie fat grubs or e3's?

I have some enviros already with some more on their way and i also use gamakatsu 211's.

I think the gamas look more attractive to the fish but whats all your preferences...

To be honest, even with the smaller single tail plastics like the E3's. I still prefer a profiled head like the Envrios in a size 4 or 6. I think the darting action you get is a lot more realistic.

I noticed it moved through the water alot easier and the envirojig head does look like a fish head compared to a round one.

Just something about grubs and round heads...

When im up i might get some size fours as the two is a little too exposed IMO. The twos are better for bass minnows i think.

Any one else?

I make my own jigheads using mustad aberdeen hooks and split shot sinkers. Its great because I get to choose the weight size, hook size (size 6 to 1), and I can put a little split shot (1/32) on a size 1 hook for extra light jogheads for big plastics or I can put 1/16 on a small hook (size 6) for deeper or faster current with 1 inch plastics... The ones you buy have size limitations, the heavier the head, the bigger the hook. I can even modify mine like stick fly eyes on them (I get to choose if I want red eyes, yellow eyes or chartreuse eyes) and epoxy it on (not that I know it'll make a difference in catch rates)

I find it works best with single tail grubs and paddle tail SPs tho' paddle tails like sliders works much better with heavier heads 1/16 and above...

On 2" grubs with long bodies I use Owner JH-15's with size 2 hooks. If the bodies are short (like on poo eaters) I use either Squidgie finnese (after closing the eye) or bullet head TT's.

I very rarely use grubs these days.

I use the good ol' size 4 hook 1/16th round ball heads for all my single tail grubs.

Swoffa- Youre kidding right?

The 2 inch fat grubs will be my favourite for ever- sure i use bass minnows and sliders and tiny ikas. But a 2 inch fat grub will be the first lure on my jig any day.

I have been using the gamakatsu 211 1/22 oz jig with the size 2 hook with plenty of success. They look right to me but these enviro jigs are cheaper, more in a pack and look more fishy. If they have a decent hook strength i will be converting to using them for most of my sp fishing. Will get the 1/22 gamas for a middle weight still.

Brad,

I have a rod permanantly rigged with a 2" poo eater on a 1/24
#4 Nitro jig head. It outfishes the bass minow rod and the tank
rod at the moment - this will change with the fishes whims.

Poo eater is the old pumkinseed berkley powergrub.

My old grubs also don't get much of a fish these days.

I see a clear divide here amongst the breamers.. those who are sold to stickbaits like bass minnows and those who are convinced the best thing to use is the single tail grub..

I think I'm one of the minority here who will put on a single tail grub first up everytime! My preference is the atomic fat grub...
