Matching colour to water
I have never bothered to match colour of the lure to water with HB's. However, in the last couple of days - after over thirty hours without a fish, I started to really change the lures over. I went from gold to green to Crawdad and a few variations in between. I used Brown Trout (Halco) with immediate results. A couple of good hits and eventually three big flatties and a very solid Bream - that bust me off (sob). The point is that the Brown Trout matched the colour of the water the closest by far (upper Swan River) being very muddy light brown generally. Any comments on this? All fishing was in the same general area and with as close as I could make it same technique.
PS. If any of you catch a big Bream with a Brown Trout in it's mouth, it's mine! You can keep the lure though!

The natural colours seem to do alot better than colours that dont match the water colour. An exception is fishing in clear water like the lower blackwood at the moment.
The brown trouts are still one of my top choices upstream around alex bridge, but where it is clear like at molloy island at the moment, i believe the colours arent as important as any bait fish will stand out. For sure get a few replacement brown trouts as they work in nearly every water you will fish. |
