Briad or Mono????

This has probably already been flogged but what do you guys think about fishing some 4lb mono right to the lure (forget about the braid for the moment - do you think mono can do the trick????) Depending on territory I think it can and I think it would increase the number of hits...

I dont see the point in increasing hits if you cant detect them fast enough to strike or there that hard to notice.
I believe if you using all mono for casting lures like tazzie devils then its probebly better because you dont need to see your line although i believe hook up rate is better on no stretch fireline or braid.

I use mono for my leader with braid as the mainline. I tried vanish for leader and I prefer the mono. I use 2mtrs. Can't comment on using it straight thru as I haven't yet.

Unless you are keen do try something different I wouldn't recommend using mono all the way through to the lure. I gave it a go, it was extra hassle and didn't seem to get extra bites. I know some others have had the same experience. Just use a longer and lighter leader if things get tough.

Hi Last cast,

I Currently have my PB at 43cm (to the fork) on 4 lb mono so its not that bad! If the bite is not real hot you'll not notice the bites as well as braid and therefore not as many fish.

I think I will leave my 4lb fireline on and just run the longer leader when the fish seem to be shutdown. You are right the fish detection and setting of the hook is a lot better with braid - I was just looking for a cheaper alternative.

Fish Tale was that bream taken from open water or around structure because that is a nice fish in anyones book, especially on 4lb mono!!!
