Remove lower treble - or not?

I have removed the lower treble on an 35 and 45 (Halco) to try them out as I was picking up a lot of weed and snags. This solved the problem of weed in particular. However I had four hits with three taking of with the lure only to lose them - in fact I don't think they were actually hooked up. The removal of the hook must reduce cast distance and also effect depth and action of the lure - although as mentioned it didn't prevent strickes. Any comment?

I remove the middle trebble for the pure fact I generally fish shallow rocky ground and I do not like having to wade out to unsnag my HB's. I havent found the removal of that trebble effecting my hookup rate.

keeling:

Just for clarification, you are refering to removing the forward most or middle treble aren't you not the rear one ..... It's generally considered the majority of your strikes/hookups are on the rear treble.

Most of the bigger fish I have caught were hooked up on the front treble. I did remove the front one for a while but found less hookups. I think it's a personal choice which you have to weigh up.

You will find the snag resistance of a laser 45 increases when you take off the front treble as it makes the lure suspend and slowly float.
