Double Uni

When you do your double uni to join the main line to the leader, do you double your braided line before you do the knot?

I use 4lb Fireline with 8lb mono leader and I never found a need to double it.

Hi, lots of you guys out there? So do you double your braided? Curious to know if it will hold the knot better as the diameter is diff and it's slippery too. Come on, help me please ................ let me know ..... or is it because I AM FEMALE ..... so just ignore her as she is a girl and probably won't know the diff?

I do a short double, about a foot, dont know why, probably because it stuck in my mind from Starlo and Bushys book. It doesnt seem to hamper cast distance or anything and puts up with some good pressure... Whatever works....

6lb fireline to 8lb flouro -

I dont double the flouro but I do double the fireline. Had probs with it cutting through 6lb too easy when snagged, so now its doubled over before I tie the knot.

Thanks guys, very interesting. Was talking to someone about how I do my knots, that I tend to double these days and find it stronger. So was interested to know how many do double the fireline. Looks like most don't. Thanks for your help

I don't. I have changed a knot from the Uni to Albright and am very happy. (I am using an Albright to connect 6 lbs fireline to 6-8 lbs fluoro). No problems so far.

Cheers
Alex

Yep i double my 4lb fireline to my 6lb or 8lb seaguar flouro. Dont double the flouro.

Herds from team fat chance taught me to do that when i was having trouble with vanish breaking at the knot. It helped but i still wont use vanish.

Always double

I always double my 4 lb fireline and I use 4-6-8 lb vanish leader tired single. I have found on good fish,
NO DUUBLE BIG TROUBLE.= LOST FISH ( and lure )

ps Girls don't listen anyway

Explain Double?

Those of you who use "doubles",

do you tie a double with a bimini twist type knot on the end of the mainline, if so, how long is the double loop?

or do you just fold over the end of the fireline before attaching to the leader?

I fold mine over. Otherwise you end up with two knots flying out your rod tip. I like my casts to be pinpoint. Two knots might donate even more lures to snags- or catch me less bream but that really cant be possible at the moment.
