Removing middle hooks on lasers

I was told that removing the middle treble and ring on the laser 45's made them suspending and not sinking which is what I want but I'm a little concerned about the loss in hookup rates.

When I think about it I see photos of fish taken on the bottom hooks and when I remove it i take 50% of the chance of hooking the fish away.

Has anybody else had the same concerns or done similar things?

Brad,
They use a heavy gauge treble on the Halcos, try swapping it for a VMC red treble. Much lighter and will give you much the same effect without taking off a treble all together.

HTH.

Havent taken them off yet so I might just put up with them.

Bear if they are the heavy guage hooks I would hate to see the light ones. These ones are really thin.

Hi Nath

if you want to get trebles and split rings off then grab a pair of split ring pliers like these from the online store. They are worth their weight in gold and your fingernails will love you for it!

I didnt have time to elaborate before typing a quick sentence and shooting off to lunch.

Ive never fished a laser pro with the middle treble on it, I remove the split ring and hook every time, this does change the lure from a sinker to a suspender/slow riser which really makes it way more appetizing to bream, you can slow the retrieve down and leave it in the strike zone longer.

You will find that after removing the middle treble the 45 will now suspend or rise with the ass in the air, and as the one remaining treble is hanging off the ass it really becomes snag proof (99% of the time) which means you can work it closer and tighter than before.

As for missed hook ups, I wouldnt think so..... 95% of bream that dont hook up on the first hit will come back for a second look, especially if he aint been pricked. But I havnt noticed a change in strike rate, not that Ive paid attention mind you.

I fish laser pros more than anything these days and none have middle trebles on, each to their own.

cheers

Cheers richo- it was you that told me the other day when I came in the shop.

Just finished work early so I am currently removing the hooks and rings.

I think that the cold front and muggy weather might have the fish feeding before the front hits tomorrow. Will give the lasers a whirl down the margaret river and let you know.

Go the laser 45s, I love m - they cast like a bullet and catch, quite like the action as well.

I think the new colour replacing the old crawfish looks absolutly spoofy, I fished the new colour in Megabucks in March and caught all my fish on it, til I lost it ..... didnt get another touch for the rest of the weekend....

Have fun down margaret river,

cheers

Just my luck, no fish. They did float though. I didn't get any on the sp's as well so maybe a dud session.
