Question Need photo help please

Hi,

I have asked before and received help but alas I'm still stuck (stupid).

The photos I want to post are around 550 kb.

I have Photoshop and Paintshop, when I try to post the breammaster website tells me the file is to large and has to be a max of 104,200. Now I'm really messed up!

What do I have to resize 550 kb to and how?
What does 104,200 mean?

Sorry to be a pain

G'day L.C.G.

Mate I may have solved the age old question of how to shrink your pix. I just did it with an amusing photo of Richo driving a John Jones's boat into the bank, let me try with another pic just to confirm and I will get back to you

Talking I cracked it

1. mate click on browse and select the photo you want.
2. right click on the photo and go down to "open with" and
select "photo editing software"
3. this should open your edit program, go to the top of the
screen and click on edit and go down to "image size F2"
4. click on Image size and this will bring up a little box with the
size of your image with a width and height and percentage box, you need to alter the percentage so that they are both at around 78% it should change both at the same time.
5. close that box, close the software and it will ask if you want to save the changes, save them
6. post your message I hope it works for you, otherwise call (08)94382852 and i will talk you through it
cheers geoff

Jim 104,200 is actually 104 or so Kilobites - your image is about 5 times too big - just use the 'optimise' option in Paintshop and it'll bring it down sweet as - use the sliding scale to get to where you want

In late model Photoshop the simplest way after resizing down to say 350 pixels wide (Image, Size...) is to choose File, Save for web, use jpg and adjust the quality down to where you are getting a file size less than the max you are allow (in this case approx 100kb).

Kingpin,
You probably have trouble with the avatar because it is such a small image in pixel dimensions. You need to start with a pic where the section you want as the avatar is already close to small enough. That way you can just crop, rather than have to do too much resizing/resampling. When you resize too far up or down the software has to basically "invent" a large percentage of the pixels and the quality goes down rapidly. A bit of judicious sharpening via Unsharp mask and a progression of stages can get you a better result if large resizes are needed.

Dave,

I have searched hi & lo for the 'optimise' option in Paintshop. I have v7.02 is it applicable to that version? I'm going nuts looking for it

Here's the commands Jim:

File, Save As, Options (bottom right of 'Save As' box), Run Optimizer (bottom right of Save Options box)

Here's a pic:
