flyfishing help
Can anyone help me get into the world of flyfishing. i really like the idea of making flies and then chasing fish on them, but before i make my own i pretty much have to learn all the basics except how to cast. i was shown personally at the fishing expo in sydney by some flyfishing guru.
What type of weight rod and line will i need if i want to chase bream flatties whiting etc. what brands do i have to look for and are there combos that i can buy because it would make things easier. finally i dont want to spent to much because im not sure if im going to like it and i dont have a job (mum wants me consentratring on school) so info will be great thanks

i am pretty sure u want a 5-7 weight rod with a intermediate line to match ur rod witha a straight 8lb flurocarbon leader, good rods to start with a innovaters, redington and a bit up the price range g-loomis and sage, as for reels a combo 6/9 are good which are large arbour. flies such as murry wilson's bms and all those sorta hammerhead and other patterns work well, and for flathead and other salt water fish a white clouser is never looked past
i hope this helps cheers greg |

mr nofish you'd be lookin at 200-300 for a cheap outfit. if you want to just get a set up to see if you like it and do some light fishing probly get one of those packs with everything in it. you'd be lookin at about 5 weight for bream and flatties you could go higher but the only reason i would is to combat the wind
cheers ben

ok
basic prices for an innovater or redington start at $250 fly reel$60 and upwards line well u have 2 options, a floting line with a quick sink poly leader-$60 for line plus $20 for leader or an intermediate line $130 backing is only about 10 bucks or so and u should allready have some flruocarbon so ur looking at $400 or so, i have my old fly rod for sale in the classifieds, if ur interested cheers greg |

Hey Mr nofish
Have a look here (go to bottom of page) Flyfishing pack These are some packs that JM gillies have put together and they comprise of a rod, reel, line and backing and would be pretty good for what your looking for. Im not sure how much they cost but i think that they shouldnt be anymore than $250. Cheers Josh

Mr no fish im pretty sure that those flyfishing packs are sold anywhere that plano stuff is sold as the are both sold to the tackleshops by the same wholesaler (JM gillies) if you local shop sell plano then they should be able to order one of those combos in for you if you ask them.
I'd stay away from the rexhunt combos as they are very basic and lack performance, the rod is made of fiberglass and is not as resopnsive as the graphite equivlent. As with all things you get what you pay for. Cheers Josh

If your in Perth then check out this shop it's in Bayswater just across the road from the train station. Otherwise you can order via the web site. I've been in there and the guy who runs it is really helpfull.
