Vanish - Newly converted

I know Vanish has copped a bit of a beating in the past And I've only recently started using it. After 3 sessions with it, Ive been converted. I now join the ranks of everyone else who hates it.

The stuff is piss weak. The abrasion resistance of this junk is the worst 6lb I've come across. As soon as it comes within an inch of a pylon it shits itself. 6lb that snaps in the hand while tightening the knot is something I've hadnt encountered before using Vanish. I've got some stuff that cost me $5 for 500 hundred metres at K'mart which is thinner and twice as strong.

On the plus side for Vanish it does help fool the fish and in water without snags I could see it being a useful weapon but for use amoungst the pylons, I wouldnt reccomend it.

Maybe I got a bad batch, but if this is the "improved" version I cant imagine how DohDohDohDoh the original was. The tests I conducted were in no way scientific but other 6lbs I've used can take fair beating before throwing in the towel. Vanish is the Glassed jawed rabbit of the 6lb weight class.

Big Pete......fireline is the most popular I would say, but it is a gel spun.....the vanish is a flurocarbon, used more as a leader attached to the braided and gelspun lines....

I must one of the few getting good batches then as I have never had a problem with vanish....clear open or oyster encrusted pylons....? but I dont use the 6lb either, smallest I use is 8lb and right up to 20lb for the heavier stuff like kingies etc

Vanish is not braid...it is leader material. If you are after braid or fireline the Berkley 4 or 6lb is a good place to start...you then attach the vanish or another leader material to it.

JP and I have been using the Berkley Vanish for a couple of years now and have very few problems with it. If we are fishing really snaggy country, like down in the Blackwood River we will put on 8 or 10lb, but for most of our fishing we use the 6lb. Maybe you have a faulty packet.

Cheers

Mim

I've been using Vanish in 4lb, 6lb, 8lb, 10lb and 20lb and I use that all the time as leaders now. I discovered early on that the vanish probably contributed to more bites and in some cases a few hundred percent more. This happenend as I was fishing with a friend who wasn't using vanish and we were using the same baits. It was just so obvious that my lines were the ones getting hit about 3 or 4 to 1.
Notice that I said bites and not landed fish and that is because of the weakness of it around pylons. Its not very abrasion resistant and the other I don't like about it is it doesn't stay on a spool very well so you can't spool up the whole reel with it but as a leader, I won't use anything else. You can probably get a better fluorocarbon line in a different brand but that will probably cost heaps more. Weighing it out, I'll stick to my Vanish for now...

Yup nitlon is the go.
Alot of gun sydney anglers use the stuff (as read from sportsfish) and alot of QLD bassers use it too. Great buying IMO. Bought vanish once and never again. And no i don't think you got a bad batch. It's all the same.

I don't think Vanish is all that bad either... I've landed my fair share of good bream and I've been using Vanish only for the past 2 years (or even earlier when it first came out). Lost my fair share too which is expected when fishing pylons with noodle rods (Mitchell Zero Gravity)

I tried some of Vanish that I borrowed of a friend over 3 or 4 sessions. Seemed OK to me. Sometimes the knot would fail on testing but never seemed to break on a fish. I think if you carefully lubricate and tighten the knot this happens less. I've just got myself a spool of 6lbs to give a proper long term test.

My friend took his first 40cm bream on vanish. It wrapped the line around a pylon and was dragging line across the pylon for a good while before I could paddle the canoe in chase. It was low tide so maybe the line was underneath all the barnacles.

Also Tim Morgan and Chris Wright use vanish, it can't be all bad can it?
