Hey guys
im interested in buying a second hand kayak for a new experience in fishing.


im after some tips in what to look for and what to look out for before buying one
I have had a look at the perception minnow and i like the look of it except there are no containers to put tackle boxes etc in. Also i cant see any where to put my rod. Are these things really needed and are there any other ways I could store them while paddling?
Just a last thing, does anbody have any small kayaks which are light, made from the polythylene stuff and are generally very good that they can reccommend r comment on

Hi luke,

I have a Spirit fun ski which is a great first off craft. It is 2.6m long and weighs only 16kg so its very practical for moving about. It can take up to 100kg in weight and is fairly stable on the water and tracks well. You can check out their website on www.spiritpaddle.com.au

I would recommend on investing in a back supported seat for it and getting a rod holder mounted on the back. Would also pay to get a paddle clip if your fishing.

They retail for $520 but occasionally they have them as low as $400. I got mine for $450 and two weeks later my old lady got two at $400 each. You get a basic paddle with it as well.

Cheers Brad. Yeh i like the idea of the paddle clip but im after a sit in not sit on.

Luke, the best small kayak I've ever fished out of is my Johnson Outdoors Loon III. It's a bit bigger than the minnow and it's also faster on the water and more comfortable. It's right at home in small creeks and out on the big water it's very stable. I troll, cast lures and fly cast from it all with no probs at all. At around $800 it's not cheap, but still less expensive than many other canoes and kayaks out there. Worth checking out mate.
