I wash my reels and give them a fine coat of inox after every session. I'll take the spools off and apply some oil every now and then.
Never take them apart! Send them in for a service if they every play up and get them done by a professional.

It's also not a bad idea to get some reels serviced when you first get them. There is no telling how long they have been stored or in transit and some manufacturers grease can get a little stiff.

Otherwise, at least give it a liberal spray b4 your first use.

I give my rod and reel a light spray of freshwater after every use and service it myself using the right grease and oil for the job.

Inox is sortof like tackle guard
it displaces water and helps prevent corrosion
and comes in a spray can
seems to be the choice of most people so ill stick to it

and it also of course lubricates

note: dont get it on your handle knobs ( i got it on one of my calcutta handles and forgot to clean it off and it was really crap to grip, it took a while to clean it off.)
