Unhappy How Many Trebles

Just brought some Featherlite trebles for my HB'. The bloke at the fishing shop recomends using only 1 treble at the rear of the lure and leave the front treble of. Just wanted to get some ideas on what other fisho's use??? I havent done much HB' fishing before mainly SP' but going away soon and want to try HB'.

I leave them both on these days as I fish mainly from the boat. I have only ever left the front treble off for shore bashing to reduce snagging.

Hi Bear

Do you catch many fish on the front trebles??? Could you use a single hook on the front instead of trebles???

I haven't had a huge amount take the front treble direct, but what I have had happen a lot is that the front treble often gets caught as well. Acts as a safe guard. I've had a few spit the back treble and stay caught in the side on the front treble.

I've been through the 'no front treble' phase and can't see me going back.

A single hook at the front would face down and therefore snag up more than a treble. You'd be better off with a double on the front if you can find some.

Swoffa I just found out that aparently you can get single lure hook that the eye is at 90 degrees to the bend I reckon they would be good on the rear instead of a treble and even on the front facing up towards the lure nearly snag free

A single hook faing the lure in the middle would be hook-up free as well as snag free.
Gama make a good "Single Lure Hook" kind of like a heavy duty suicide that works well on the rear of hardbodies. I use them on a lot of my Attacks and PakRats and have never had a problem hooking up. They're great around mangroves where the lure hits the pnuematophors (sp?).

I think the hook that you are talking about is called a "swiash hook" (correct me if im wrong) they use them on Tassie Devels and as a stinger hook for spinnerbaits. they have a much larger eye than conventinal hooks that make them eaiser to put on to a split ring.

The swiash is a fly hook and it's not very sharp. The hook I'm talking about is called a "single lure hook" and it's dark in colour. I'll check out the packs when I get home and see if there some sort of reference number.
