Treble or single hook?
I have a tub of old hard body lures, the trebles are rusty and need replacing. Most of them have no middle ring or treble as this was the thinking a few years back. Now i see a trend emerging for single hooks? who is using these , and how do you find it? do you run one or two hooks?
Thanks Howard

I've given singles a good go and have come to the conclusion they miss too many hookups. They work when bream are aggressive but when they are biting tentatively, hookup ratios are plain awful. Doubles on the other hand work great.

Trebles have a much better hookup rate than singles and doubles combined.
Although assists are a different story with hookup rates even better on most (not all) lures they are used on. Last edited by mr perch; 20-02-2016 at 03:37 AM. |

Doubles have pretty much the same hookup rates as trebles for me. I use them exclusively for land based fishing as they greatly reduce snags. I don't bother out of boat though as freeing snags is much easier

When using trebles .. look and see what prong most fish (especially bream) are pinned on

Depends on lure for me. Cranks/shads I just run trebles. Aggressive lure (large minnows and sinking stickbaits) id run a treble from the middle tow point and a single from the back. I find I drop less fish running a single at the back
