Advice re lures for Bass in Blue Rock

So I am going to start having a crack at the bass in Blue Rock Lake. Having never targeted Bass before, I am after some sound advice from those in the know as to the type of hard bodies (diving and surface) as well as plastics that you prefer to use to target these magnificent beasts.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Never been to blue rock but bass are pretty straight forward mate.

There was a B.A.S.S Australia nation Como there where deep chubbies and tn dominated. The majority of the field were throwing the 50 size while the winners threw the 60 and got the better fish but less of them.

The main bait fish in the dam is Redfin so your baitfish presentations should be based around that however it's summer and most bass are still looking up for their food. I'd be using cicadas and insect imitation straight up. Things like a softshell or siglet. Nothing imitates the insects and bugs better than a weightless plastic on a worm hook and they can be cast through the worst structure.

As surface slows down through out the day that's when I'd start throwing around the lipless cranks diving lures.

I've been fishing it a fair bit lately, might even try tomorrow as the forcast for Westernport is not flash. Bass are not my specialty and I had a slow start but I seem to have cracked a bit of a code. The main thing that I swear by is the fact that you need to be packing up and going home when everyone else is arriving. I've been getting on the water before light and finishing by 9.00am. Surface lures like a Kokoda Cicada go well (cheap too but change the trebles) as do Atomic K9 walkers(got my Blue Rock PB on one of these). I've found that they need to be right in amongst or within a few inches of the snags. A foot away is too far. A 40mm diver would be my most succesful lure though (Hurricane Twitch 40 has a bit more casting weight than most of the others). I get plenty of hits on slow rolled soft plastic minnows but they don't convert to hook-ups like the trebles on the others. I'm no expert there but my results are improving. I don't see anyone else doing any better than me though.

Quiet surface lures work better there as the fish are still small and timid. I've had good success with tiemco soft shell and tiny trick trout. Dark colours seem better. I've also done well with tn60 brown dog colour with a custom jig spin. Also refered to as dressed. Recently I used a spinnerbait down deeper along trees along the bottom, was tired of small bass everywhere, and got a nice one before I had to head off.

I've caught some of my better ones on Strike Pro Slinky Minnows 85 in amongst the timber on the edges.
and have been dusted numerous times on big fish using 1/4oz Spinnerbaits in Black / Purple and Red / Black fishing the rocky edges and running them about 4-5mt down.

Joel Crosbie Won the ABT Hobie event in there using Strike Pro Cyber Crank Deeps fishing the edges.
The two in the photo were on Slinky Minnows on a day I landed over 30.

Have fished blue rock a couple of times in the last month and it has been fishing very well. Surface has been going very well with early morning and late arvo being best. The Tiemco soft shell and tiny cicada have been working best for me.

When the sun gets higher start fishing a little deeper any of your diving bream lures will work. small spinner baits and plastics with the clip on spinnerbait arms work a treat also.
