Go a watersnake...much better after sales service, every bit as tough as a kota and a hell of a lot tougher than motorguides plus better footpedal and remotes than both.

Was very happy with every watersnake I had.
Am also very happy with my wireless motorguide.
I like the watersnake because it was relatively cheap to purchase & the service centre was also in Adelaide, not that I really ever had to worry about that. Pedal also was easy to use especially the go pedal. Press n hold you are away release & it stops. Left right buttons, it was a piece of cake.
The motorguide also is easy to use but getting used to the hit button to go & hit again to stop took a bit of getting used to. Only a small hurdle to overcome. Reckon the Motorguide also uses less juice than the snake over the same amount of time.
I like the idea of an Xi5, especially the ability to have a Tx for the lowrance inbuilt ( if i understand that correctly) but I like the old foot control over the new one & I dont use the remote for anything other than back seat driving!

Cheers for the info Ck . I have heard some good things about the newer motorguides but have also been told by a couple of people who tried them for their guiding businesses who had some performance dramas when their exposed to heavy use on a daily basis. I sopose only time will tell.
My shake shadow has been going strong for 8 years now but I only recently broke the shaft and anglers central couriered a new one to my door interstate within 2 days of my call all free of charge. They go above and beyond and also shorted my original shaft for free when the guys at bla wanted $300 extra for the same job for a kota
I only use remote it's just too convenient to have on your wrist, gave away the footpedal years ago
