bait buttons question

Hi guys, I've recently tried using 6'popin frogz rigged on 8/0 TT chinloks, i'm having issues with the back of the plastic sliding down the hook exposing too much hookpoint and not sitting right. The eye end of the hook is holding the plastic no worries.

after watching clips on u tube I noticed they only use the buttons on the eye end of the hook.

Question is... would they work to secure the plastic midway down the hook shaft or would the button slide aswell?

Heres some tt chinlocks and some bait buttons. Looks like a combo of bait button and super glue would be a belt and braces solution

I use gorilla to stick eyes onto lead jig heads and you can slap them on the water to get rid of weed and they dont come off. So that might be an option for the glue

Could probably just cut some tiny squares out of an old runner sole (or hole punch if you want to get fancy) to get your rubber grommets. If you dont have an old pair at home, A 2 dollar pair at the op shop would give you a life times supply.

Just hole punched the crap outa some wader boots, looks pretty good, will report back if it works. Thanks again for that one Yellow Door

Wader boots - Even better - saves having to try to rip a sole off a pair of runners

For a really firm grip you may have to take the barb into consideration - if you arent planning to use superglue - the barb on your hook may tear a larger hole than you want. They can always be depressed and brought back up or just leave it barbless for easy release

thanks mate ill consider that if it poses a problem, me and superglue don't get on well, last time i used it in the dark while surface fishing the tube got blocked then burst open and glued 2 fingers together making fishing difficult lol

Yeah hopefully you wont need it

and if you have a small drill bit - a hacksaw - and bit of pipe - a jerry rigged hook insertion applicator should be a piece of piss - just make sure the drill bit isnt too much thicker than the hook

Would embedding the hook point just barely under the skin of the plastic work, like the yanks do for Texas rigs?

This is what i've been doing with the 4" frogz yet to see if it affects hookup, alhough i imagine if a cod hits it it should be with enough force to expose the hook.

With all these snake head hooks Ive been getting of late, I have been punching out small 4mm round wads from polypropylene plastic and threading them onto the hooks gently and using them as a redneck alternative to the bait buttons - cost is nothing which is good.
