new Cranka crab split rings

I was fishing with one of the new crabs about a month ago and got it snagged after driving over it every which way trying to pull it off i got over it and decided to break it off, i grabbed the spool and pulled on it till it snapped thinking it broke at my clinch knot on the lure like always.

I still thought that it did until i got home and realised i had an open split ring still attached to the end of my leader, i was using 10b Toray braid with 10b FC rock leader, Fg knot braid to leader and improved clinch to lure. I don't think i could ever put the pressure it took to open it on a fish my 25k CI4 wouldn't be able to, it took A LOT before it came free.

But i have had to snap off plenty of lures and have never had a split ring open.

Steersy said they use "high quality Japanese split rings" but didn't answer what LB.

I have sent him the ring in the post about a month ago but haven't here'd anymore.

Im not bagging out Cranka or the crabs i love them both just would never think a ring would open.

Just wondering if anyone else has had one open?

Nope, but easy peasy, take one from another crab and test on dry land where you can see what's happening.

Stick an old lure you have retired in a vice, attach the ring to the tow point and same leader/line combo and test it again.

You may well have just had the one-in-a-million soft split ring

They're just a round profile steel ring. Well all mine are as standard... I've had rings straighten only on lures that were retrieved with a tackle back quiet a few times regardless of the ring type on the lure.

There are rings on the market designed to open and closed so that you can retrieve lures that are snagged however these rings aren't those...

To have the ring straighten with 10 lb braid is very possible, 10 lb leader maybe so and the knot... You must tie a good knot!

Do that test that Mark suggested, and chuck a forged owner ring on after that and test the difference?

If you could never put as much pressure on a fish as you did when you busted it off, what's the problem??

Not trying to be rude, just wondering.

onthedrop86... so if the lure snapped in half when you were snagged but putting on more pressure than you could put on a fish you would be happy? wouldn't bother you? i just don't think it should open under that much weight bud.. thats the problem...

Good support at start from steersy, asked to send the ring in.. i did and have sent a couple messages since but haven't here'd in over a month.

customer service is big for me, so as much as i like the cranka gear i doubt ill be buying anymore.

Hey mate, Steersy only just got back from an overseas trip. I believe he was away for a couple of weeks.

Anyway he's a busy man BUT CRANKA will stand behind their product 100% send him another message and I'm sure he'll sort out a solution.

Cheers

yea understand he would be busy.. i was surprised when he said to send it in actually.
Don't think i should have to send that many emails. If you can't keep up with customer service maybe its time to get some help with it?

Anyway not super fussed now its been that long, just wanted to let people know how it went.

Sorry to hear of your trouble Parmo as I have said directly to you via our PM's and thank you for returning the splitting in question to me.

Please note that I have been OS and prior to that I have been having trouble keeping up with everything on my plate lately sorry!

I can assure you that you are the only CRANKA customer to ever question the quality of our split rings mate... Having said this (as I said via PM) it is entirely possible that our manufacturers got a poorer quality split ring delivered or mixed up in our quality rings some how!

As I have said via PM I am more than happy to resolve this issue directly with you but please understand that I am only one man who has a massive work load on my plate and I do not get time to visit this site lately sorry!

Please if you wish to discuss this issue further directly with me please do so via my email that I sent you via PM!

Look forward to resolving your issue directly!

Cheers
Steersy
