Certate Vs Steez Vs Morethan
Hi guys,
I'm after a new reel for my newly purchased battler shorehunter, and wondering about the differences between the reels. The morethan has come into the same price range as the steez, the $750 to 800 mark. Will I notice a difference in smoothness between the two, and will they be different to the certate? Cheers guys, Brams |

This probably won't help a lot but I have mine matched to a 3500HD Certate and find the combo nearly unstoppable for most species I chase. It doesn't fish at all like an 8'6 rod (I fish it quite a lot chasing snapper in plastics) but you do notice the casting distance, and it has the power down low to drag in annoying tuna rolling on their sides.

Great rod choice mate! I have the 3012h certate on mine. It's bewdiful!!!
The way I see it is the branzino is the same reel with magseal bearings either side of the handle and a black paint job. Don't get me wrong I'd love one but are they worth double a certate??? The steez will be really light maybe too light and probably won't have that solid as a rock feel that the other 2 metal bodied reels you talk of have and the zaion just feels too light in some situations. They'll certainly all be great and will serve you top shelf performance if ya look after them, just slight difference in the steez construction super lightweight from the other 2 which may play a part on a really long rod. I'd go a certate and spend $400 on lures. Last edited by matt jorg; 15-02-2015 at 10:35 PM. |

As Mr Jorg said,certate-feels as good as branzi without breaking the bank. But if you wanna some extra bling with certate smoothness and power-branzino can be a good option too.Steez just a funny plastic toy,I doubt it's a good partner for such serious rod.If willing to spent bit more,go for megabass, it's definitely all way better than steez.

That's exactly what I was expecting to hear, and it was so surprising that the morethan was in the same price range as the steez when I thought it was daiwa's best gear. I love the rod it's a great piece of kit! With the morethan do they have tighter tolerances and a higher build quality than the certate?
Twoshoes, what size tuna were they? |

Hey guys about to buy the morethan - do you reckon it's worth sending in for a service before it gets used to remove any manufacturing chaff and give it a good oil?

+1 wouldn't send a brand new reel in for a service and waste $70+

You sure about saying 'no' to doing a pre service prior to use?
I do and I would say absolutely for anyone concerned (no scaremongering here either ). The amount of manufacturing swarf even found in a Stella (one i found with the largest piece of swarf to date) is beyond me. Once you wash all the parts down in a solution and then you swish that solution so that it combines all the heavier deposits in the middle; it's jaw dropping how much actually comes out of a "BNIB" reel. Will have to post up a pic when i have my laptop up next time. Last edited by Slazmo; 22-02-2015 at 06:32 PM. |

I have 4 of the reels in question and all are fine without pulling them apart and giving them the once over before using them. I fully appreciate that stuff will get by the guys in QA at these factories but am not sure a trip to the service department will necessarily fix that in reality.

I just cant wait to post up these pics for you all to see...
There is a bit of conjecture on the subject of "to do - or not to do". Once parts like the bronze pinion starts to wear that is a irreversable action - and the drive gears starts to wear and then its a hand in hand wear action untill you get that dreaded grindy feel (pictured this also). Absolutley honestly without missleading anyone for any other gain etc; take the following into consideration. You buy a car - run it in for 1500km's and what the first thing they do? Dump the oil - anyone peeled apart a engine oil filter after the bedding in stage? I can see the difference between a reel that is straight out of the box and a reel that has been loaded with line and used for a month or so - mechanical filings wise. I am staning behind my comments, I will definatly say if you feel this is unnecessary its upto you but those that love mechanics and the persuits of it like myself; I see a little past just using and servicing as such. |
