Strike pro hummer tips

Any tips for succesful use of the hummer?

Terrain, retrieve, rigging etc?

Got a few of them and had some success but not killing it. Snagged quite a few too. Was thinking of maybe losing the belly treble and/or running with assist hooks only.

Anyone smashing bream on them and got any tips on using them?

Cheers
Dave

I work em like a standard vibe, casting along wall edges in deep water and letting them sink to the bottom before a lift and drop retrieve. Have a fair amount of success on them. Probably caught as many school jew on them as bream. Bream often pick em up off the bottom too. Flatties are partial too them too. I think slooooow lift is the key, they seem to have a very gentle vibration that gets lost if jerked too fast. Hope it helps

Yeah, it's my most successful lure. As said above just work it slow, the bream love the subtle action and usually are just sitting on it when you lift. My go to when the bream are sitting deep

So when you say sloooow.... Are you feeling that through the rod or just trusting that it's vibing. I've been giving it a bit more of a rip in order to get that feedback (front tow point)

Slow is definately key with these, just a slow steady lift and drop and they work great.

As for feel I think it depends on what rod you are using but myself and smackmaa use different rods and we can both feel the subtle vibrations of them.

Are you casting and retrieving or just vertically dropping?

Can these be used with stingers? All my blades have them now and wouldn't go back to trebs.

Casting and retrieving using front tow point - was using a daiwa pinster last night and couldn't feel much but it was fairly windy which might have contributed

I'm running one at the moment with assists/stingers. I'll certainly let you know if I hook up with it

Yeah i look for the vibration to come through the rod.. To put it into context, I've been using a 1-3kg samaki zing for this application and its not a finess rod but i can feel the vibration well enough.
I love the trebles on these lures and wouldnt change em for stingers if you paid me. In saying that, i have donated a few lures to the richmond river..

I've had a few in the box for a while but never tied one on due to uncertainty about what sorts of areas to fish with them. are they best on flats, rock walls, snags, piers, deeper areas, etc?

Deeper areas around rock walls is my favourite, but holes and drop offs are good too. It sinks reasonably fast so i like a fair bit of water to allow it do its flutter thing on the way down.

Good question. The only success I've had is worked close and parallel to man-made structure around the city in 3m of water. Haven't had much luck fishing more open or shallower areas like the river banks.

IF YOU ARE CAST RETRIEVING THE HUMMER USE THE FRONT TOP TOW POINT.
IF YOU ARE VERTICALLY JIGGING THE HUMMER USE THE REAR TOP TOW POINT.

In deeper water I let them sink to the bottom casting up current or into the tide.
Bream like a lot of species will sit facing into the current and ambush prey as it comes past.
I let them roll on the bottom for around 30cm then give the lure two small hops. You will be surprised how many fish take the lure whilst it rolls.

The Hummer is also very deadly fishing open flats.
Its great because you can cast it along way from the boat/yak and cover a lot of ground.
When doing this use the front top tow point and just slowly roll them along the bottom.
During the World Kayak Fishing Championships at Bemm the Bream were just picking the up and running with it when you just threw it out and let it sit there.
When you watch the video on the Hummer you will see it sits on it's nose at rest and doesn't fall on its side so it looks like it is digging in the sand.

I've caught as many fish on deep drop-offs as I have through shallow flats using the Hummer.
Very versatile and under rated for fishing flats.

Here is another couple of video's of the Hummer at work.......
