handmade custom lure help?

Ive decided to make my own suspending/sinking stick bait style lures. Ive got all my woods, tool, hardware and assorted epoxies ready.
and ive though about how i would paint them?
during my many hours researching ( YouTube mainly) all of the videos are using a small airbrush but ive at the prices for an airbrush set and its anywhere from $50-100 so would using just a paint brush do a similar job? if so what types of paints would i use??

thanks to anyone that can help out

I made some lures years ago out of timber - used model ariplane/car paints and brushes.
I made some with scale pattern by putting mesh material over the lure and spraying with silver from a spray can.

They aren't nearly as pretty as store bought ones.

My uncle told me how to get a better finish on the lures using epoxy and a hair dryer to heat up the expoxy on the lure and get a uniform thin coating. I have one he gave me - it has a bit of glitter glued on before the epoxy (I think). Its also got a small split shot glued into it to adjust it casting weight and bouyancy. This lure is not going near the water - I couldn't bear to lose it.

Caught some bass on my old hand painted and varnished lures. Haven't really tried them on bream. Time consuming to make - but satisfying. One of the attractions (to me) of fly fishing is I can make my own flies - relatively efficiently.
