Motor missing skeg fin solutions

Hi all

I am looking to buy a bigger motor but I have found one but the skeg fin is completely missing, is this a problem ., does the skeg help with steering or is it there to protect the prop only .

Cheers
Andy

50hp honda? I seen that one, you can get them welded back on with good success. I think it's mainly to protect the prop, if you hit a rock without a skeg it would do some serious damage, most likely not only prop but gearbox too.

There to stabilise the motor and counteract the torque. Part skeg's can be welded back on but if the whole thing is missing who knows what structural damage the gear case has. Unless its priced with enough room for a second hand case to be fitted (several thousand bucks) walk away very quickly.

Preaty sure there was an item marketed some years back that replaced lost / damaged fins.Think it was show cased in trailerboat fisherman or a similar publication. Sorry thats all I have. However, seamonkeys advise seems on the money to me.

Thanks SeaMonkey

Yeap, the whole thing is missing and there is no story as to why, so will walk away .

@ MattyA yeap the 50hp Honda was the one I was looking at, motor looks great and runs fine but the mystery behind the missing skeg had me worried as to what has happened to it previously.

Thanks All

Andy
