Thanks mate you cleared it up for me now. Just started getting into Daiwa been a shimano man all my life and the worst thing is not knowing how to compare the reel sizes and knowing really how big they actually are compared to a Daiwa.

In Brisbane, is the 1003 similar size to a 1000 shimano?

They are very very similar. Daiwa rotor is slightly bigger. Spool diameter is the same but Daiwa is 1-2mm taller (longer stroke). Daiwa has a more compact/slimmer body. Shimano's body or gearbox is chunky in comparison.
Hope this helps.
