Daiwa Luvias 2506 problem

Hey all,

I recently bought a Luvias off Japan Angler and it was all good when I received it. After one short session it has developed a bit of a knock when winding, just as the handle is facing the ground. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if theres any easy way to fix it? Should have just bought it locally like my 2004 but oh well....

cheers

a lot of my daiwas have a small knock ...

see if its worse or better when ;

spool is pointing at the ground
spool is pointing at the sky
then try winding with a finger pushing the drag knob gentle towards the reel....

if the knock doesnt change then its the bail trip mechanism...

my emeraldas gets it bad sometimes so i open and close the bail a few times...
the issue gets bad on some reels when you are someone who always trips the bail arm by turning the handle... this eventually leads to failure and creates loose line that then causes tangles...

always close your bail arm by hand .

Cheers for the reply mate.

I opened and closed the bail arm as you said and it seems its gone away a bit. Theres still a small knock, but not as bad as before.
Funny how you say to close the bail arm manually, because I close it manually every time..

I have 4 luvias and none have anything like you describe, sounds to me like your bail wire is bent and needs replacing

Just saying that even if you bought it in Oz and it's under warranty, your tackle shop / Daiwa may say there is no problem with it anyway so nothing gets fixed and you are out of a reel for the time it sits in the service department ...

Catch 22 .. hope the reel sorts itself out over time and use !

I called daiwa and the bloke said it will probably is the main gear and quoted me 180 for service and new gear set which is a bit ridiculous.

Yeah, well thats it you never know what they're gonna say. Its not too bad, so ill probably just put up with it and see how it goes.

This is my first daiwa, so maybe should have just stuck with shimanos

I've had that knocking sound occur in a few reels that i've serviced.

Alot of the time all i did to fix it was simply strip the reel down to its barest, clean every trace of lubricant and grease, dry, relube and grease, reassemble and its gone.

This has worked a treat. Its worrying that daiwa have recommended replacing the gear, considering its supposed to be one of the strongest parts of the reel and hasnt been used. I also doubt the gear would be faulty from the factory, as you'd def get more than a click if it was buggered.

At least once you strip it down you can examine the teeth and it meshing with the pinion, just to double check

Hope this helps you mate

$180 is steeeeeep

Thanks Nags, that helps a lot. I would have a go at stripping it down but worried about the magseal?

Also, what does it tell you that sometimes the click is louder and other times its quite soft? That to me says its not the gear as wouldn't it be a more consistent click each time?

For 180, just sell the spool and handle and get another reel online. Tell daiwa to go get....

Have you tried taking the spool off and spining it without
the spool and see if it knocks without the spool on it.

Yeah it's still there. I also took off the handle and tried but still there.

I've emailed Japan angler, but I received it 3 weeks ago so not sure what they'll say..

Something very similar happened to my 13' certate. It was knocking after a couple of sessions and it would only knock when spool is facing forward. I sent it back to Daiwa and they replaced the gears. It was explained to me that the main gear had a little nick on it and in turn it caused another nick on the pinion gear. And the tiny nick only came in contact in certain positions.
Daiwa replaced both gears out of warranty but it did take 4-5 weeks.
I guess the gears aren't that strong after all
