Yamaha 2003(F40BWHT) Tilt N Trim issue's!!!

Hi all,

Had a small issue with my tilt n trim yesterday. When trying to raise the engine its very slow and sometimes doesn't even move(going up or down)! It's very noisy and sounds like it's grinding. I'll post some pictures up of the engine. There is some fluid leaking I'll post the picture of that as well. I'm still new to boating and would love for someone to tell me where I can top up some tilt n trim fluid, can it just be that there's not enough fluid?

I would love any help with this. Thank you all in advanced.

Regards
Bash

Looks like fluid is coming from the shaft seal maybe or the top caps loose if you have the correct tool try doing up the top cap and then add some fluid and bleed. if fluid is still coming out then the ram needs a service.

Part #63 is the filler - hex head below elec motor assy.
When you fill it make sure the ram is all the way up eg. motor tilted all the way up so the fluid isn't under pressure.

Thanks Scottyfish,
unfortunately I don't have the tools. I'm sending the engine in for a service and will get it professionally fixed! I think the Shaft is due for a service anyways. Does anyone know how much this will cost to get fixed? Thanks.

hi bash,
I had a similar problem on an 40 merc, turns out the top seal was shot and the electric pump motor was getting water in from the lower seal.... new seals and a new electric pump motor were in order ..... they are not that cheap in Australia, if needed look the part number up on the internet.... there is an American company that manufactures aftermarket pumps on Ebay... the aussie price for mine was about $540 from Sierra marine for the pump, this American company make a whole new pump for less than $200 with warranty. let me know if you need the details for them....if you must replace the electric pump motor...
Cheers

Thanks Manaroman,
I actually took my boat for a 12 month service at hunts marine. I told them to fix the problem while there servicing the engine. Hopefully I don't need to pay so much. That's boating for you.
