How much can a 2500 certate handle?

Hey guys, this woulda been done before but what has your certate 2500 knocked over??
Is it a viable bigger fish reel? With it's bigger line capacity and the same drag capability as the 3012s by daiwa it would suggest it is up to it or am I wrong?
I'm keen to hear any discussion on captures, line and rods used with it.
Cheers matt

Hey mate,

I have one of a geno black wicked weasel and 10lb sun line super pe. Its a great combo and love it! I took it out to one of the Sydney Fads one day and caught about 25 Dollies up to 87cm on it. The reel held up fine and i was able to give them some hurt. However i did melt the drag washers . I also use this combo to cast metals and plastics into schools of salmon and bonito. Has caught some thumper bonnies up to 71cm and a few small rat kings. I was able to hold the spool and keep a 63cm rat from going under the wharf (but with 15lb leader).

So yeah i would say that it is a very tuff real and would be perfect on jewies and snapper aswell..

You'll have no dramas mate, I use a 2500 caldia (would assume the line capacity is the same) and have stopped plenty of fish, a few nice barra over 70cm spanglies over 4kg on some pretty nasty reef, gold spot trevs getting close to 90cm and even a shark mackerel well over 1m (although it did need some chasing haha). It's sitting on an 8-17lb dobyns savvy and spooled perfectly with 200m of 20lb toray seabass

Cheers boys I need more convincing like that!
See I have a 4-8kg rod it balances very well on and I'm thinking why go another reel in a 3012? I've got my heart set on a branzino but my account says no!
Maybe the little 2500 will go ok with some good pe on it.
I've also found the 2500 a little large for my breaming lately to my liking so it's sorta stuck in the middle for me.

Same thing happened to me... bought it originally for bream/flattys but found it way to OP and heavy. Atleast i had an exuse to buy a new rod

3012 always seemed like a funny size when the 2500 has the same specs. Aside from a marginally bigger spool retrieving a touch more line per turn I can't see a difference.

Landed heaps on my 2500 certate but nothing monstrous. It's never felt like it wanted for grunt though.

I've got a 2500 Sustain and I'm after the same info but didn't want to start another post. Would you say it's be equal, better or worse than the Tate for large stuff? Only caught snap to 45 and snook to 80 so far so not much of a work out at all. Had BFT to 15kg chasing lures I've cast to a school but no hookup do you recon the reel could take 5-8kg of drag on fish of that size?
(Sorry for the hi jack )

No dramas with the hijack mate all good discussion!
I was using Shimano 2500 sustains and even a stella up until Xmas time, on size and feel in the hand I'm expecting the daiwa to be a bit more of a "bigger fish reel" just seems to have a physically bigger spool and body.
I reckon the Shimano 2500's are closer to daiwa 2000.
Feel free to disagree though anyone?

Having compared my certate 2500 and rarenium 3000 side by side i can say the certate was physically bigger and also had a way bigger spool. Kinda like a 3500 if there was one cause its not as big as a 4000. As for a daiwa 2000 i haven't compared one side by side with a 2500 shimano buy i think the daiwa is still substantially smaller both in body and spool? someone correct me if I'm wrong

the 2000 is actually pretty close to a shimano 2500. A touch smaller but not much. My 2000 certate easily handles 65cm snapper.

Are we talking 2000 or 2004?

I have a 2004 'tate that has landed trevally to 57cm and a few other decent fish.
My 2500 caldia is WAY bigger. I bought it for a bream outfit, but like others found it quite OP.
Now it sees mostly bottom bashing duties, and it's more than adequate for this in shallow (10-15m) water. I imagine a 2500 certate would be plenty for most jews, snapper and even smaller kings.
