How much line can Exist 1003 take?

Hey Guys,

I am planning to get one soon and just so I could get an estimate, could anyone please share what braid they are using and how much line fits on their reel roughly?

Cheers

Thanks mate, I always thought the specifications on the website were just a guide only.

The trick is to know the diameter of the braid that you intend to use to fill your reel. The brand doesn't matter. You can then mathematically work out how much line your reel will take by comparing it to the stated capacities of the slightly differing diameter lines mentioned in the official specifications. If you happen to be using the same diameter braid as what is mentioned in the capacity specs, that's exactly how much line you will need.

In reality, I always spool at least a few turns of ordinary mono before tying on the braid to ensure it won't spin on the spool. This tends to throw out my calculations to a degree.

When spooling up a reel, I have found that it's easier to apply more mono backing than what is likely to be needed initially, as it's easier to take the braid off to reduce the amount of backing, than it is to add more backing. If that makes any sense. It can be a finicky job to get the spool filled so that its exactly perfect.

Its easier to do it in reverse order.

Put on your 100 yards of your working line on tight, connect that to the backing line and spool that to the spools lip.

Rip off the line onto the grass or in your living room 'neatly' and then work from the backing line end and put the line back onto the spool tightly.

Works perfect every time.

I do this:

- Wind braid onto spool, then mono backing till it looks perfect on the reel like how you want it.

- Grab another reel and wind braid and mono onto the next reel. This will make it seem the braid is on the reel you dont want it on But don't stress.

- Grab yet another reel, and wind the braid/mono combo onto that reel. Once you've done this, the backing will be on the outside.

- Wind braid/mono back onto your original reel of choice.

It's a lot of stuffing around but it ensures the reel is spooled exactly how you want it without stuffing around stripping braid off to add more mono etc. Sometimes you can fluke it and fill it perfect just by guessing but I can never seem to do that so I use my fool proof way. It also seems to reduce line twists as the braid is stripped onto several different reels before it gets used.

^^^ This
except instead of using other reels a power drill and a couple empty leader/braid spools work nicely just have to make sure with all that spooling and unspooling you don't spool up the wrong way and twist the line but it works fine for me just takes a bit of time

Most tackleshop will put it on nicely for you if you buy line from them.

Dont ever use tackle shops I bought a reel, bought 300m of finns 30lb for it, got them to spool it and only roughly 100m was put on the reel with a tonne of backing to make matters worse, I didn't even get the extra 200m because they spool off bulk spools. NOT ONLY THAT, but it was horribly spooled, was prone to twists and a total balls up of a job. That was the first and last time I got someone else to spool a reel for me.
