cast deck questions
hi all
just in the middle of starting a front cast deck on my quintrex dory. have a couple of questions if anyone cares to answer. 1. when building a cast deck where do people or would people store there anchor rope. how does it get to the front/tie off point? 2. gas struts to open a lid. Are there special marine grade ones or are cheap car boot ones just as good? cheers ryan |

Not too sure about the struts, but the deck we put in a hornet just hinged from the seat for access to The anchor. Had a small semi circle hole on the front edge of the deck for the anchor rope. If you didn't want the front deck level with the seat though it's better not to fasten the deck because it can be a pain in the arse if it is hinged and can't open right up to lay flat. I have also seen decks that are completely fixed but have a small section that is cut out and hinged to the rest of the front deck. Just had as 3mm stainless plate lip around the underside of the rest of the deck so the hatch was strong enough to stand on without slipping through........
If any of that makes sense, wasn't my most eloquent reply |

cheers Normoh. i think i get what you mean about the rope. i think i have an idea to do from what you have said.
my deck is going to be on top of the gunwhale back from the front to the seat as 1 big hatch hence some struts would be cool and as a result it had me thinking about ropes/anchor as i still use it from time to time. anyone else with an idea on the struts? links or pictures? cheers ryan |
