2013 Certate - Inquiry on durability

Hello gents,

For those who has 2013 Certate in larger sizes i.e. 2510 & 3012, and used them hard i.e. used often, fight relatively big fish, fish in difficult conditions and etc. - how do you find the reel holding up to the test of time and fish?

I ordered a Certate 2510R-PE from Digitaka a few months back but the reel I received had quite noisy oscillation and therefore was returned. Out of disappointment, I went for a Stella instead and it has been servicing me well. However, truth be told, personal I think the 2013 Certate in high gear with the gun metal colour spool and handle is one of the best looking spinning reels out there at the moment. With my birthday coming soon, I have an itch to get a 2013 Certate despite the disappointing previous experience.

What I care the most are:
- the durability of the gearing: is the reel still smooth and tight after say 100 hours of operating? and;
- although there is almost no handle play when new, does the handle play sets in significantly through use?
- how does the drag perform in the long run?
- as the owner, have you noticed any drawbacks or have had bad experience with the 2013 Certate?

Thanks.

Hey mate. I found that all my newer reals with the mag seal were a bit the same as you experienced with yours. It goes away the more you use it. All mine are silky smooth now. It could be the grease that is on the reels from the factory. That is all I can put it down to. You won't be disappointed with it mate. I have four certates. They are tops. Very hardy reels IMO. Hope this is helpful.

I've had the 2500 for 4 months and landed heaps of snapper on it. I would have put maybe 50 hours on it so far. I was made redundant earlier this year and fished it alot over a 5 week period, so maybe more.

The reel has freed up but in a good way. It's very free spinning but still feels like all the tolerances are tight. I'm a bit sensitive to that kind of thing after being very disappointed in a Caldia and the Certate feels $200 better in hand to me. Handle play hasn't changed for me. Negligible.

Drag is flawless. Only had one service (by me). I like the 13 certate better than all my other reels.

Oh chopperdog, ever so helpful! Thanks a lot, mate. What models do you use if I may ask?

No worries. I also use a 2010 2000 certate (feels more geary than the 2013 Certate but the drag is beautiful music!), 2500 TD Sol (old model), 2004 Luvias (new model) and 2004 Caldia (2011 model, poorly built I think).

Sorry, I did not make myself clear - I meant the 2013 Certate you have.

I love the drag sound of Daiwa reels. Music to my ears indeed.

I know your after input on bigger sizes but my 2004 has been flawless and is my favourite spinning reel now I've definitely put it through its paces so far but mostly on lighter species.

Have given my 2010 2500 certate a flogging and it has held up very well. I cant imagine the 2013 certate would be a whole lot different.
The drag is awesome, and probably equally as smooth if not smoother than my stellas.

Does anyone know what the R stands for in a 2500R reel?
cheers n good luck

Thanks for your input, mate.

The R custom on a 2500 size means the body is from the 3000 size while the rotor remains a 2500 size.

I have bought my old man a 3012 and a 3012H for use up here in Townsville. He has punished them on Barra, Jacks, Trevs, Queenies and offshore pelagics. He hasn't had any dramas with them, drag is still like silk, oscillation is still like new and the only thing thats happened is the most minute amount of play in the handle (Most people wouldn't even feel it). I would say that he has used both reels for around 70 hours each or so.

Good luck with what ever reel you choose!
